In 2021, we decided to invest in telling a more complete and authentic story of our state. We launched the Expand Massachusetts Stories grantmaking initiative after witnessing the groundbreaking work of local organizations who uplifted the lived experiences of the people they served. As a funder and partner, we sought to follow their lead.

Five years later, we're excited to share that we have completed an assessment of EMS and its impact from 2021-2024. Just a reminder that our friends at Mass Cultural Council have set the stage for another powerful year of arts, culture, and humanities in the commonwealth. We are so grateful for their tireless efforts to bring the to all of us. (In case you missed it, MCC helped secure nearly $40 million in state public dollars through the MCC operating account and Cultural Facilities Fund).

Mass Humanities is looking forward to another year of exciting collaborations with MCC, including co-presenting the 2026 Massachusetts Storyteller of the Year awards in October.
