Two years ago, a group of high school students were each handed $1 and given a week to turn it into $100.
Darrick Ramsey made $2,065. Alexis Jordan surpassed the target with cleaning services and a homemade snack that sold out everywhere she took it.

Neither of them spent the dollar. They spent the week.

Ramsey's strategy came from a journal he'd kept during his school's CEO program — every business owner he'd met, their name and their contact information. When the challenge started, he recorded a one-minute video and sent it to every one of them. The response was overwhelming. He overbooked himself within days, pressure washing and detailing cars in freezing rain, with vehicles icing over as he worked. By the end of the week he had $2,065 and a business model.

Jordan's move was simpler: identify where people already want to give you money. For her, that was her church community. She offered cleaning services, leaned on relationships she'd already built and added Kool-Aid pickles — a homemade snack that became an unexpected hit. "Everybody was going crazy over them," she said.

Both of them have kept building. Ramsey runs PeerPressure, a pressure washing and mobile detailing company named after the peer pressure that nearly derailed his life after losing a close friend in middle school. Jordan, now 19, runs Blended Threads LLC, has written a children's book about living with juvenile diabetes and speaks publicly about it.

The business lesson isn't about $1. It's about what these two already had before the challenge started: relationships, credibility in their communities and a willingness to do hard physical work in bad conditions without waiting for things to feel easier.

That's the actual starting capital most people overlook. You don't need more money to begin. You need to take the network you already have more seriously than you currently do.

When Berru Merve Kul was accepted into Sakarya University's Faculty of Law in Turkey, she was determined to become a lawyer despite being visually impaired.

Instead of giving up, her mother, Havva Kul, stood by her side every single day.

For four years, Havva attended every law class with Berru, taking detailed notes during lectures.

Each evening, she read law books, legal codes, and case studies aloud so her daughter could study for exams.

Together, they overcame every challenge through patience, determination, and unwavering love.

In July 2018, Berru graduated with her law degree and earned high academic honors, proving that hard work truly pays off.

But the graduation ceremony held an unforgettable surprise.

Dean Professor Mahmut Bilen invited Havva onto the stage and presented her with an honorary graduate certificate in recognition of her four years of extraordinary dedication.

The audience erupted in applause and tears, with photos of the emotional moment quickly spread across social media, inspiring millions around the world.

Berru earned her degree through her own determination, while Havva was honored for never letting her daughter face the journey alone.

Their story is a powerful reminder that dreams are achieved through courage, but they become possible with the love and support of those who never stop believing in us.
