And we’re off!
The first NFUSA Farmer Training session kicks off this week at Tiny Farm, led by farmer and NFUSA Ag Technical Advisor Roberto Grossman.
Over the past eight seasons, Roberto and the Tiny Farm team have built a highly productive small-scale farm in South Florida, growing for restaurants, farmers markets, and their CSA while developing systems designed to make farming both sustainable and economically viable.
This week, our trainees get to step into that operation and learn where it all begins: understanding the land, building healthy soil, planning a productive farm, and getting their hands dirty doing the actual work.
We believe farmers learn best from farmers. That’s why this program puts aspiring growers alongside experienced farmers, learning on real working farms throughout the season.
Eight weeks. Dirty hands. And hopefully the beginning of a few farming careers!

The NFUSA Farmer Training Program at Tiny Farm starts in just two weeks, and we have one final spot available.
This is an 8-week, hands-on training program that meets one day a week on Thursdays, built around actually doing the work. Participants learn alongside us at Tiny Farm, from soil preparation, seeding and transplanting to crop management, harvesting, washing and packing, and everything that goes into running a small production farm.
This program is for aspiring farmers who are serious about pursuing farming.

At the pace AI is taking over daily tasks it won’t be long before most of our food is grown in artificial environments and controlled conditions. We are already there to some degree with hydroponics systems but the potential is there for ALL our food to be grown like that in the future. The salvation lies in small and diverse farms growing in soil. Simple as that so your choice matters more than you think.

Two years in and our tamarind trees are showing off their first fruit!
There’s something about the first few days of September that seems to say: the season is changing.
It’s still hot and muggy. It’s still very clearly summer. But there’s a subtle change you can start to feel around this time of year.
This afternoon the air is eerily still, and all the cover crop around the farm looks like a still life.
