The Kinder Institute for Urban Research reports that SNAP enrollment in Houston is down 18% as food pantries report increased demand. COR Houston provides needed food directly to low-income students at school, helping families who struggle to find transportation to food pantries.

Houston SNAP enrollment down 18%, pantries report increased demand as program eligibility tightens | Kinder Institute for Urban Research Each week, more than 550 individuals typically show up to Christ the King Episcopal Church in Mission Bend, picking up food during one of the nonprofit’s two distribution days. The count has more than doubled in the past year, said Mission Bells director and pantry manager Vas Kenyen.

COR Houston brings out red, white, and blue school uniforms to wish everyone a Happy July 4th holiday!

Allison Limon, a rising senior at Westchester Academy for International Studies, collected a huge truck-load of school supplies for COR through her School Recovery Supply Initiative project. Allison partnered with six elementary schools across the Spring Branch district to collect items, and then recruited other teens to help organize the donations. COR will distribute these supplies for economically disadvantaged students in HISD. Thank you, Allison, for this wonderful service project!
