Spazmatics Event Raises Over $70,000 for Meals on Wheels

Big hair, neon colors and ’80s hits filled FireHorse Saloon on Saturday, September 12, as supporters came together for The Spazmatics Fundraiser benefiting Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. Presented by Staff Force Personnel Services, the event raised more than $70,000 to support homebound older adults throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties.

The funds raised will support both Fort Bend Seniors’ home-delivered meal program and six senior activity centers throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties. The more than $70,000 raised will help provide nearly 8,000 meals to local seniors, whether delivered directly to the doors of homebound older adults or served at senior centers where participants also benefit from activities, exercise, socialization and connection. This support is especially important as federal funding for senior nutrition programs continues to lag.

“It was incredible to see so many people from across Fort Bend County come together for a great night and an even greater purpose,” said Doug Simpson, CEO of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. “The support of our community is more important than ever. Every sponsor, ticket purchased, auction bid and donation help ensure we can continue providing meals and connection to the seniors who depend on us.”

Fort Bend Seniors extends a special thank you to presenting sponsor Staff Force Personnel Services, along with all the businesses and individuals who sponsored and supported the event. The organization also thanks FireHorse Saloon for hosting the fundraiser and the staff and volunteers whose time and hard work helped make the evening a success.

The success of The Spazmatics Fundraiser comes at an important time for Fort Bend Seniors. Continued government funding challenges have placed greater pressure on the organization to raise private dollars to sustain its senior nutrition programs. Fundraisers like this, along with corporate partnerships and individual giving, help bridge that funding gap and allow Fort Bend Seniors to continue serving older adults throughout Fort Bend and Waller counties.
