CARPE DIEM: SEIZE THE OFFERING
2 Corinthians 8:1–9

What if the offering God desires most is not something from your hand, but your whole life?

Paul tells us about the Macedonian churches. They were enduring severe trials and extreme poverty, yet their overflowing joy produced rich generosity. They gave what they could—and then gave beyond what anyone expected. Nobody pressured them. They pleaded for the privilege of helping God’s people.

Their giving was:

• Spontaneous—not forced by pressure or manipulation.
• Sacrificial—it cost them something.
• Spiritual—they first gave themselves to the Lord.

That is the heart of Christian stewardship. God does not merely want our money. God wants our lives. When God has our lives, He also has our careers, relationships, families, gifts, time, resources, and plans.

This message reminded us that we are often living on “miracle territory” created by someone else’s sacrifice. People prayed, served, gave, and sometimes completed commitments through their deepest pain so that generations coming behind them could receive the benefits. We should never forget the sacrifices beneath the blessings we enjoy today.

The greatest example of giving is Jesus Christ:

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”
—2 Corinthians 8:9

This verse is not a promise that every Christian will become materially wealthy. Our possessions, neighborhoods, cars, jobs, and bank accounts do not determine whether we have God’s favor. There are people with very little money who love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Jesus’ poverty points us toward the Incarnation: the Son of God emptied Himself, came down, took on human flesh, walked among us, carried our sins to Calvary, and gave us the riches of salvation.

We were separated from God, but Jesus pleaded our case. We were not rescued because we were worthy. We received mercy because Christ loved us and gave Himself for us.

That is grace.

Sometimes we do not know where our provision will come from, but God meets us where we are and makes a way we could not see. God can give us what we need before we even recognize that we need it.

Do not measure God’s goodness only by what is presently in your hands. If the Lord awakened you this morning, He gave you another opportunity—to praise Him, improve what you can, serve somebody, love somebody, and become more fully what He has called you to be.

Do not wait until the bread is in your hand, the raise appears in your paycheck, or the new key opens your door before you praise God. Praise Him for what He has already done, for what He is doing now, and for what you trust Him to do next.

“When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died…
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.”

Today, seize the offering.

Give spontaneously.
Give sacrificially.
Give spiritually.
But first, give yourself to God.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for every way You have provided for us, including the ways we never saw coming. Free us from measuring Your goodness only through material possessions. May the grace of Jesus Christ shape everything we possess and everything we are. Amen.

SUNDAY’S MESSAGE: SEIZE THE WIND

“So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”
—Ezekiel 37:10

Sunday’s message reminded us that everything can be properly aligned and still not be alive.

In Ezekiel’s vision, the scattered bones came together. Tendons appeared. Flesh formed. Skin covered the bodies. Everything was organized and in its proper place—but there was still no breath in them.

That is the difference between realignment and resurrection.

A model home can have beautiful furniture, perfectly arranged pillows, folded napkins, and a bowl of apples on the kitchen island. Everything may look ready for life—but the apples are plastic, the refrigerator is empty, nobody has slept in the beds, and no one has laughed, cried, or prayed inside those rooms.

A home is not defined by its structure. It is defined by the life within it.

The same is true for a church, family, organization, ministry, or individual life. We can improve the structure, reorganize the teams, rewrite the plans, recast the vision, and place everything in its proper position. That work matters because God Himself brought bone to bone. But structure alone cannot produce life.

We can build the frame, but only God can provide the breath.

The Hebrew word running through Ezekiel 37 is “ruach.” It can mean Spirit, breath, or wind. What Israel described as death, God addressed with ruach.

God led Ezekiel through the valley so he could see its true condition. The bones were not merely dry; they were very dry. God did not permit Ezekiel to observe safely from a distance. He led him back and forth through the reality of the valley.

Before God gives us a new vision, we must honestly face our present condition. We cannot reach the future by pretending about the present.

When God asked, “Can these bones live?” Ezekiel did not answer with shallow optimism or hopeless unbelief. He answered, “Sovereign Lord, You alone know.”

That is a faithful response in a dry season:

“God, I cannot see how this will happen. The evidence around me appears hopeless. But I am not the one who makes the final decision. You are.”

God responded with a promise built around two words: “I will.”

“I will make breath enter you.”
“I will attach tendons to you.”
“I will cover you with skin.”
“I will put My Spirit in you.”
“And you will live.”

Ezekiel obeyed, and the valley began to rattle. Bones moved across the ground looking for the places where they belonged. What had been scattered became connected. What had been disorganized found alignment.

The rattle was noisy and uncomfortable, but it was evidence that obedience was producing movement.

Do not despise the rattle.

When God begins realigning our lives, relationships, churches, and assignments, something that once belonged over here may now need to move over there. Change can scrape against our preferences, traditions, and comfortable positions. But the rattle may be the sound of God reconnecting what has been scattered.

Still, realignment is not resurrection.

After everything was organized, God told Ezekiel to speak to the wind. Ezekiel could not create or control the wind, but his obedience participated in what only God had the power to accomplish.

That is what it means to seize the wind.

When God says speak, speak.
When God says pray, pray.
When God says move, move.
When God says remain in the valley, stay long enough to witness what His Spirit will do.

The wind came from four directions. That reminds us that God’s life-giving work may not come from the direction we prefer or expect. It may come through a seasoned saint, a young voice, a mother sharing her faith, a classroom, a small group, a ministry, a neighborhood, or a street corner we have overlooked.

Do not close the door simply because the wind is coming from an unfamiliar direction.

The Spirit of God does not always arrive like a hurricane. Sometimes God moves like a gentle breeze changing the conditions around something that has been motionless for years.

Our responsibility is to prepare, remain prayerful, stay in God’s Word, obey His instructions, and position ourselves where we can recognize His movement.

We cannot make the wind blow. But when it blows, we want to be standing in the right place.

Come, Holy Spirit. Breathe upon every dry place. Breathe upon our families, churches, communities, dreams, and lives. Bring us to life, help us stand, and prepare us to carry Jesus into the world.

We can build the frame—but only God can give the breath.

Seize the wind.

• Ezekiel 33:21 — The messenger reports that Jerusalem has fallen.
• Genesis 2:7 — God forms humanity from dust and breathes the breath of life into the formed body.

• Luke 14:23 — Going into the highways and byways so that God’s house may be filled.

KEY WORD

• Ruach — The Hebrew word translated as Spirit, breath, and wind.

KEY SERMON NOTES

• Spiritual vision begins with revelation from God.
• We cannot reach the future by pretending about the present.
• Realignment is necessary, but realignment is not resurrection.
• Structure without the Spirit produces form without life.
• The rattle may be the sound of obedience and reconnection.
• Human obedience participates in divine action without causing it.
• God can send renewal from any direction He chooses.
• The Spirit does not always move dramatically; sometimes God begins with a gentle change in conditions.
• We prepare through prayer, Scripture, obedience, and availability—but only God sends the breath.
• When God’s breath enters His people, they live, stand, and become an army prepared for His mission.

SERMON ILLUSTRATION

• Racetrack Playa in Death Valley National Park — Rocks that appeared unable to move began traveling across the desert floor when water, thin ice, sunlight, and a gentle wind created the right conditions. The researchers could prepare their instruments and remain present, but they could not make the rocks move.

“Hello, world—we’re bringing Jesus to you.”

A vision without action is a daydream, but action without vision is a nightmare.

There are some great ways we could define vision. John Maxwell defined vision as “a desired future;

a picture of something that I don’t possess right now, but it is something I want to see and experience and something I want the people I am leading to experience."

SUNDAY’S MESSAGE: THE LAST COMMAND AND THE FIRST COMMISSION

Pastor West reminded us that Matthew 28:16–20 is not merely a familiar passage—it is Christ’s mandate for the Church and His mission for every believer.

Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples…”

The command is not just for the preacher, missionary, deacon, or ministry leader. It is for you and me.

We are called to filter every program, activity, decision, commitment, and use of our time through the Great Commission. Does it help people encounter Christ? Does it produce lifelong disciples? Does it teach obedience, love, mercy, and justice? Is it transforming lives?

Discipleship is not a certificate earned after completing a program. It is a transformed life that remains identified with the resurrected Jesus Christ. We cannot settle for “cheap grace”—wanting forgiveness without repentance, baptism without commitment, and Christianity without obedience.

This week, let’s do what the pastor asked:

• Be a witness wherever God places you.
• Help someone move closer to Christ.
• Cross the cultural and social boundaries that separate people.
• Continue learning, growing, and obeying.
• Examine whether your life reflects the One you claim to follow.
• Trust Christ’s promise: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Don’t just attend church. Be the Church.

Don’t merely hear the message. Live the mission.

Carpe Diem—seize the day, seize the moment, and use your life to help make disciples.

💼 Talking to myself again…

If you’re a business owner, this one’s for you.

People see the business.

They don’t always see the sacrifice.

They see the logo.

They don’t see the late nights.

They see the success.

They don’t see the self-doubt, the setbacks, or the prayers whispered when nobody was watching.

Building something meaningful requires faith.

There will be days when you question yourself.

Days when growth feels slow.

Days when you wonder if all the effort is worth it.

That’s when you have to remind yourself:

God didn’t give you the vision to torture you.

He gave you the vision because He trusted you to steward it.

The vision may take time.

The growth may take time.

But purpose is still purpose, even when progress feels slow.

Keep planting.

Keep serving.

Keep learning.

Keep showing up.

Success isn’t always measured by what you’ve built.

Sometimes it’s measured by who you’re becoming while building it.

Today, I’m reminding myself:

Stay faithful. Stay focused. Stay purposeful.

God is not finished yet.
