An internal exam is NEVER a mandatory part of our care. That being said, all of our therapists are trained to assess and educate surrounding the internal exam for all of our patients.
What information does the internal exam give us?
Coordination patterns, strength, ability to access full range of motion of the pelvic floor. And one of the most important parts? How that looks FUNCTIONALLY-not just laying on your back on an exam table.
Onward Physical Therapy is a pelvic floor practice that focuses not only on the pelvic floor-but on bridging it into function and building your capacity, because taking care of little ones requires strength and capacity.

Meet Ashley Lewis
Ashley Lewis is a fascia therapist, birth and postpartum doula, and ceremonial bodyworker dedicated to nurturing women and families through pregnancy, postpartum, and life’s profound transitions.
Through Ceremonial Flow Bodywork & Fascial Therapy, Ashley weaves together myofascial therapy, intuitive bodywork, somatic support, traditional postpartum care, herbal baths and steams, nourishing meals, abdominal wrapping, and closing ceremonies. Her work creates space for rest, recovery, reconnection, and honoring the body through every season of life.
A lifelong student of the healing arts, Ashley continues to deepen her practice through ongoing education, training, and the wisdom of traditional care. She is also preparing to expand her work into end-of-life care, bringing the same tenderness and reverence to life’s final transitions that she offers at its beginnings.
Her postpartum work is especially close to her heart.
