October is about more than loving pets. It’s about helping them find homes. 🐾💛

Through the initiative, Subaru and its retailers across the country are partnering with local shelters to help animals get adopted and give them the love, care, and visibility they deserve.

And right here in Houston, we’re proud to be teaming up with Gillman Subaru Houston Southwest! 🚙🐶

Throughout October, we’ll be introducing you to some pretty incredible Friends For Life animals who are ready for their next chapter — and bringing some of them directly to Gillman Subaru for BARKtoberfest on October 17!

Because sometimes finding your new best friend just takes being in the right place at the right time. 💛

Broseph needs to know.

This boy arrived at Friends For Life in 2024 because his owner was moving.

He was quickly adopted, but returned this year because his adopter suffered from bad allergies.

Just 3 years old, Broseph has already had a lot of changes in his life.

He’s social, healthy and enjoys the company of both cats and people.

Anyone out there want to give this cutie a spot for the rest of his life?

Note to self: “When in a foster home, don’t grab an armchair and move it across the room… or you might end up back at the shelter.” — Bunji

Yes, that really just happened. 🤦‍♀️🤪

But before you get the wrong idea about this lovable goofball, here’s the scoop:

Brandon: “Frankly, Bunji is really not that high-energy. He gives that appearance initially, but he settles down pretty fast. He’s lived successfully in three different places and typically does great indoors.”

Eden: “I love playing the Freeze ‘N’ Zoom game with Bunji. He LOVES training! Training exercises are a great way for him to put his enthusiasm to good use.”

Bunji is a happy-go-lucky boy who absolutely loves life and people. He’s social and makes fast friends with just about everyone he meets, including kids!

He also has a wonderfully silly personality and is looking for someone who will appreciate his goofy antics…and then let him snuggle up next to them when the fun is over.

One important thing to know: Bunji is not a fan of other dogs, so he’d do best as the only pet in the home.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate friend who will keep you laughing, please consider taking Bunji on a sleepover.

He’d love the chance to show you just how wonderful—and wonderfully silly—he can be.

This litter of seven is spending theirs in our ringworm room, where they’re kicking that pesky skin condition to the curb!

But fear not! These 2-month-old fighters are on the mend and will soon be good as new and ready to find their forever homes. Until then, they’ll be busy healing, playing and growing up.

We’re a no-kill animal shelter in Houston’s Heights, but what happens inside our shelter is only part of the story.

We believe every animal deserves a chance. That includes seniors, animals with manageable chronic conditions, fearful cats, reactive dogs and FeLV+ cats.

We believe a friend for life should really mean for life. Every animal adopted from FFL can come back to us at any point in their lifetime if their adopter can no longer care for them.

We believe keeping animals out of shelters matters, too. Our free pet food bank helps families going through difficult times keep the pets they already love.

We believe behavior is part of animal welfare. We invest in training and programs for animals who are fearful, reactive or simply need more time and a different approach.

We believe volunteers can change what’s possible. In fact, the hours donated by our volunteers add up to the equivalent of 11 full-time positions.

And we believe animal shelters can—and should—keep getting better. From our Friendr behavior matching quiz and Zen Pods to creating Houston’s first cohabitated shelter during a disaster, we’re always asking: What can we do differently to help animals?

Authorities are asking the public to remain vigilant following reports that two suspiciously adorable outlaws have been causing mayhem around Friends For Life.

The suspects—believed to be siblings—have been linked to a string of toy thefts, unauthorized belly rub solicitations, and at least one deeply troubling incident involving a pair of shorts.

Both should be considered armed and extremely playful.

If spotted, DO NOT attempt to apprehend them.
Unless, of course, you're interested in adoption. 🤠🐾 In that case... we know some people.
