Kindly Woven is one of those aptly named companies. Everything they make is exactly that: kindly woven đŸ§¶

They don’t print their patterns onto blankets. They weave them in, which means it won’t ever wear off. That’s the difference between small batch and mass produced.

Kindly Woven makes everything at a family-run mill in North Carolina. Most American mills closed decades ago. This is one of the few left standing.

If you’re ready to cuddle up with a Kindly Woven blanket, you can check out their pieces in our Fall Living collection!

Nobody decorated this house all at once. It came together over time.

Nothing matches. The lamps are from different decades. There are too many blankets. The shelves are full of things that clearly meant something to someone.

That’s what makes it feel like a home.

Start with one thing you love. Then wait. Then find another.

Do I need 20 different mugs? No. Do I keep buying more? Absolutely đŸ˜šđŸ€

walnut, oak, cherry, maple, ash, teak. the options are endless đŸȘ”

The solid wood pieces in your home, from your dining table and furniture to your cutting boards, are actually a little bit alive.

As humidity changes, wood takes on and loses moisture, expanding in the summer and contracting in the winter. So the same cutting board can actually be slightly wider in September than it is in February.

Mass production gets around this by using materials that don’t move, like particle board and MDF. Solid wood doesn’t get that shortcut, so a woodworker has to solve it in the joinery, building joints that let the piece shift instead of fighting it.

Uiltimately, it’s the difference between something you replace in a few years, and something you don’t.

Picture framers have to work with these movements too. A mitered corner joins two pieces of wood at 45 degrees, and the seam has to stay tight as the wood expands and contracts. Good framing accounts for that movement so the corners stay closed.

These are the craftspeople who understand how wood moves and know how to work with it. It’s skilled, intricate work, and every one of them is worth a followđŸ€Ž

Social media has completely catfished people about what it’s actually like to start and run your own business. đŸ±đŸŸ

A lot of the “start the business” and success-story content you see is coming from people who spent YEARS working behind the scenes to get there.

If you’re going to invest your time, money and energy into a business, go in prepared. Talk to real business owners. Ask them about how they got there, what went wrong, how long it took to breakeven etc.

I’m going into year four of my business and I filmed this reel in my car after a particularly challenging two months. I wouldn’t usually share something like this because I don’t like negativity, but I wanted to show that bad days, months, or even years, are a big part of the reality of entrepreneurship.

Remember that building a profitable business takes time, so please don’t set false expectations or compare your business to what you see on social media. Social media is NOT real life!

The first fall dinner is always the one people remember. It’s dark by the time everyone sits down, the oven’s been on all afternoon so the house is warm, and nobody’s rushing off because it’s finally cooling down outside.

You did your job. Now let the table do it’s job.

Six things, and the night takes care of itself. Everything in that photo is here Aware House
