What a send-off! 🤘 Earlier in July, we welcomed our newest Longhorns at our annual Student Send-Off, and the energy was unmatched. A huge thank you to H-E-B, UFCU, Dish Society, UT Admissions, and River Oaks Donuts for their generous support, and to every volunteer who helped make it a memorable night. A special thank you to our speaker, Dr. Iverson, for coming to Houston and sharing wisdom with our Longhorns.

Class of 2030, welcome to the Longhorn family; we can't wait to see what y'all do at 40 Acres! 🧡

We had a BLAST at the Dynamo and Austin FC soccer game on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who came out, and we hope you enjoyed supporting another Houston sports team. A special thank you to the Houston Dynamo FC for helping us organize this successful event and donating a portion of all group tickets sold to our scholarship fund.

Even better, the Dynamo won the game! ⚽️ 🧡

MFA Houston is showing Tower (2016), a film following the events of August 1, 1966, when a sniper rode the elevator to the top floor of the iconic University of Texas Tower and opened fire, holding the campus hostage for 96 minutes in what was a previously unimaginable event.

The MFA is offering two showings of this film, Friday, July 31, and Sunday, August 2. The August 2 showing will have a post-film discussion with the director Keith Maitland and the director of photography and executive producer Sarah Wilson.

Introducing our new Chapter President! 🧡

Kendra Hakanson officially stepped into the role on July 1. She's the perfect fit to lead the Houston Chapter because she's made a career out of encouraging alumni to stay connected with their alma mater.

As president, she plans to pay it forward for the next generation of Longhorns and honor what the University of Texas gave to her! In fact, her favorite UT memory was during her freshman year when our football team won the 2005 National Championship. She says she could feel the pride and excitement all across campus!

Kendra loves sports so much that she works a contract position for major sporting events, managing event transportation (including the Super Bowl and the FIFA World Cup)! 🏈 ⚽️

Oh, and today is her birthday! Happy Birthday, Kendra! 🎂

Shining a spotlight on Destry Flatt, our June Member of the Month! ⭐🤘

Destry joined the chapter after moving to Houston and hoping to meet new people. His first event, like many of you, was a football watch party at Little Woodrow's and he's been part of the Texas Exes family ever since. Now as Community Service Chair, he's one of the driving forces behind the friendliness and community spirit that make this chapter so special.

Outside of Texas Exes, Destry is an active member and assistant coach with the Houston Striders, occasionally leading Thursday runs along Buffalo Bayou and competing in races from 5Ks to marathons. When he's not running, you'll find him hiking, camping, or out on the water kayaking. We're lucky to call him a Longhorn and a friend. 🧡🏃‍♂️

Friday’s University of Texas night at the Astros was a hit! The first 400 fans who grabbed tickets via our group link scored limited-edition Astros/Longhorns caps. Several people stopped to ask where we got them, and it was fun to smile and say, “sorry, they’re just for us!” Getting shown on the jumbotron was the highlight, and the Astros’ win plus the postgame fireworks made the night even better. Can’t wait for the next one — hook ’em horns! 🧡🤘⚾️
