Officially home from another incredible adventure at sea. 🌊 I have to give a big thanks to Nautilus Live for making science communication and education central to the work the ship does. It’s wonderful to have sharing amazing research stories prioritized so highly by an organization, allowing people like me, teachers, and other educators the chance to help showcase the important ocean research being done.
We work 7 days a week on very busy schedules while at sea so I’m taking some time this week to recharge and get my life reorganized. Then back at it again with some more exciting science adventures, and editing some long form videos from my time at sea! Still so much to share. Thanks for being along for the ride.
What we bring up from the deep sea to the surface helps us identify new species, better understand life that lives on the seafloor, and learn more about our planet. On board the ocean expedition I just completed on Nautilus Live, I asked some of the science team members to show me what they think are their most interesting samples of the expedition, including some potentially new species to science!

Hello, land!!! đź‘‹ Feels amazing to say that for the first time in 31 days!
Why have a rock saw on our scientific exploration ship, Nautilus Live? I got to talk to Jamie, one of the geologists on board about the cool science it enables.

The true hero of this ocean expedition is Hercules, our Remotely Operated Vehicle that explores the sea floor! (Me for scale) With powerful robotic arms, sample containers, sensors, and cameras galore, this intrepid machine certainly deserves its name!
Behind the scenes of story time at sea aboard Nautilus Live! Huge thanks to Books by the Bay for organizing everything from the shore side as well. I love that Nautilus prioritizes education and connection via interactions like this. On any given day I’m talking to high schoolers in Australia and a university in Georgia and a trivia night in Germany!
