We grew up around Broadway when the pressure was just part of life. We were Black kids coming up during the War on Drugs—police in the neighborhoods, everybody watching how they moved, streets already judged before the people in them were understood.
So we made our own lane.
The cars, the barbershops, the parties, the tapes—that was our world. Then Screw gave that world a sound. Slowed down, heavy, unmistakably Houston.
What outsiders called the hood, we called home. What they saw as trouble, we turned into identity.
Nobody was trying to make a legend. We were just living—and the culture we witnessed became history. Directed by David Stunts | Dp belly

The “jump-out boys,” are known for their black tactical uniforms and the masks they sometimes wear during raids. They specialize in “buy busts,” undercover purchases of modest amounts of drugs—usually co***ne or marijuana—from street-level dealers. The money for the task forces comes from a U.S. Department of Justice program known as the Byrne grant, which was hatched in the late eighties, at the height of the drug war. Over a ten-year period, the DTFs grew into Texas’s largest narcotics enforcement effort, accounting for roughly 12,000 arrests every year.

2 of 6 One thing about this place, we always got the honorable mention when it comes to Houston Culture. When this was really where a lot of relationships happened… 1991-94 where the Streets married to the music culture and was the catalyst for the Houston Culture you see today.
