💻 Is your office internet actually fast enough for your team?

Slow video calls, choppy VoIP, lagging cloud apps, and sluggish uploads could mean your business doesn’t have the right bandwidth - or that something else on your network is causing the slowdown.

Learn how to determine how much internet bandwidth your office really needs, why upload speed matters, and what to check before paying for a faster plan.

If you want your team to work fast, don't skimp on their computers or your internet.

Everything moves quicker than it used to. Customers want fast replies, and the jobs often go to whoever gets back to them first. Your team can't be quick if their tools are slow.

A laptop that takes an age to load, internet that keeps dropping, cheap software that hangs, all of it means your people spend half the day waiting around and working out ways past the problem. It's frustrating, and good staff hate not being able to get on with the job because of the gear they've been given.

Spend a bit more here and you get it back. The work goes faster, and people are happier doing it.

You don't need top-of-the-range everything. You just need computers and a connection that are quick and reliable enough to stay out of your team's way.

🚨 Not every cybersecurity threat comes through an email or a suspicious link. Sometimes, it walks right through the front door.

Picture this: A stranger walks in behind one of your employees carrying a box. They look like they belong there, so no one questions them.

Now they’re inside.

They could plug into an open network port.
Pick up an unattended laptop.
Sit down at an unlocked computer.
Access information they were never supposed to see.

It sounds simple - because it is.

Physical security is cybersecurity. 🔐

Make sure your team feels comfortable speaking up. A simple “Hi, can I help you?” can be one of your best lines of defense.

And make the basics part of your company culture:
🔒 Lock your screen every time you step away.
👀 Question unfamiliar people in restricted areas.
💻 Secure laptops and other devices.
🚪 Don’t let someone “tailgate” through a secured entrance just because they look like they belong.

Your firewall can’t stop someone who’s already standing inside your office.

A security conscious team is one of the strongest layers of protection a business can have.

🚨 Would your team know what to do in a cyberattack?

Don’t just have a plan - practice it. Sit down with your key people and walk through a scenario: Your files are encrypted Monday morning. Who do you call first? Can you reach key contacts if email is down?

The questions no one can answer are the gaps you need to fix.

🗑️ Deleting a file doesn’t always mean it’s gone.

Before an old computer, phone, or other office device leaves your business, make sure the data on it leaves too.

Simply deleting files or emptying the recycle bin may not permanently erase them. Data recovery tools can sometimes bring that information right back, which could expose customer information, financial records, employee data, passwords, and other sensitive business information.

Before disposing of, donating, selling, or reassigning a device:

💻 Computers: Use the appropriate reset or secure erase process. On Windows, “Reset this PC” with the option to remove everything can help prepare a device for disposal or transfer.

📱 Phones & tablets: Perform a full factory reset after making sure anything you need has been backed up.

🖨️ Office copiers & printers: Don’t forget these! Many multifunction copiers have internal storage that may retain scanned, copied, printed, or faxed documents.

🔐 The takeaway: Have a standard process for securely wiping business devices before they leave your control.

Protect the device. Protect the data. Protect your business.

🚨 Tech Support Scam Alert: Microsoft and Apple won’t randomly call you to say your computer has a virus.

If you get a pop-up or phone call claiming your computer is infected and they ask you to call a number, install software, give remote access, or make a payment - don’t do it.

Close the pop-up or hang up. If you’re concerned, contact your trusted IT provider directly.

A few seconds of caution can help protect your business, your data, and your money.

MFA isn't bulletproof. Google's June 2026 advisory warns attackers build fake login pages that pass your password and MFA code through to the real site, stealing your session. Use passkeys for important accounts, and never log in through an emailed link.

🔐 Who in your business can change the bank details on an invoice?

It’s a simple question, but it highlights something every business should be thinking about: Who has access to your most sensitive financial systems?

Your accounting software may be connected directly to your bank, contain payroll information, and provide access to other critical financial data. That makes strong access controls an important part of protecting your business.

A few simple safeguards can make a big difference:

🔹 Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA)
🔹 Give every employee their own individual login: no shared accounts
🔹 Use roles and permissions so only authorized employees can move money or change sensitive information
🔹 Review user access every few months and remove permissions that are no longer needed

Cybersecurity isn’t just about protecting computers. It’s also about making sure the right people have access to the right information, and nothing more.

Strong access. Safer operations. Better protection for your business. 🔒

🏠💻 Working from home doesn’t mean leaving security at the office.

Your team’s home WiFi is part of your business security, too.

Encourage remote employees to:
🔐 Change default router passwords
📶 Use WPA2 or WPA3 security
💻 Work from company issued devices

A simple remote work checklist can go a long way toward keeping your business protected, wherever your team works.

Soon, some of the calls coming into your business won't be from a real person.

Google has started giving people AI assistants that ring businesses for them. The assistant will call a shop to check if something's in stock, book an appointment, or ask about a price.

For now this is mostly a consumer thing, and it's early. But if a lot of your business comes in over the phone, it's worth knowing about.

Tell your team some callers will be AI, not people. And whatever they say on a call can be recorded, so it pays to be accurate about prices, opening hours and what you've got available.

There's a good side to this too. You can use the same kind of assistant for the dull calls you'd rather not make, like chasing a supplier or waiting on hold.
