Fondren Library

It’s riceuniversity Families Weekend! Fondren Library was excited to share information at the Campus Fair and welcome visiting families for library tours. Come check out Fondren and see all that the library has to offer!

Check out some of the cool things from the monoprint workshop at Athena Press in the Woodson Research Center on the first floor of Fondren! Watch along for a quick how-to :-)

A practicing architect, Bill Condon (1923–1998) was significantly involved in Houston’s contemporary arts scene during the 1950s and ‘60s. Much of his work displays the influence of his architectural training and his interest in drawing and printmaking; his work also incorporates a variety of experimental techniques. A new exhibit at Fondren’s Brown Fine Arts Library celebrates this Rice alumnus’s artistic contributions across a variety of mediums.

🩷Happy Dolly Day! If you haven’t already had a chance to take a look at our display honoring Dolly Parton, you should today. She dedicated her life to improving childhood literacy while being a country superstar, and we love her for that. 🩷

🫘🌱Join the Fondren Seed Library, Green Team, Communities Responding to Extreme Weather and the Rice Vegan Society to plant beans and learn how industrial meat production is contributing to climate change and environmental damage on September 28, 2026, 10:30am-12:30pm at Fondren’s East Entrance Cloisters. 🌏🌎 Happy Climate Prep Week!

Join our AI & the Environment Learning Community! The kickoff event is coming on Sept. 29. We are looking for members of the Rice Community (all employees, students, and alumni) to attend talks and engage in relevant discussions over the next several months to explore questions about how AI and the environment interact. For more information and to RSVP, visit https://library.rice.edu/features/ai-environment-learning-community-kickoff-sept-29

🇺🇸📜Thank you to everyone who joined us for Constitution and Citizenship Day at Fondren Library!

It was a full afternoon across the library, starting with our panel discussion on “America 250: The Constitution from Quills to AI” and continuing with exhibit tours, photo booth fun, button-making, and free pocket Constitutions.

Thank you to the Kelley Center, the League of Women Voters, and Harris County staff for coming out to help our students register to vote and try out the ballot machines. We also want to thank the Department of Political Science, PLST, Rice Phi Beta Kappa, and our student organizations for making the day possible.
