We have gained a lot of new followers recently, so I’d love to introduce ourselves✨

Hello! We are Community Music Center of Houston, CMCH. We teach music lessons, have a community orchestra, and preserve Black Musical Traditions. Since our founding in 1979. we have collaborated with Beyoncé, Michael Prince , S.H.A.P.E. Community Center , Crown Royal, Miller Outdoor Theatre , The Conrad Johnson Orchestra (CJO) H-TownOrchestra Presents and so many others! Composer Spotlight: Scott Joplin

When you hear the name, Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra, you might wonder who was Scott Joplin and why is our Orchestra named after him?

Known as the king of ragtime Scott Joplin transformed American music through his innovative, compositions blending African-American musical traditions with classical forms, his work help pave the way for future genres like jazz while proving that black composers belonged on the concert stage at CMCH the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra honors his legacy by celebrating black musical excellence and sharing the power of music through performance education and community. His story reminds us that music has power to inspire preserved culture and connect generations.

For more than four decades, Community Music Center of Houston has been preserving Black musical traditions while making quality music education accessible to students of all ages. Through performances by the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and year-around music education programs, CMCH continues to inspire, educate and strengthen our community.
