Know the ABCDEs of skin cancer. These five signs can help you recognize changes in a mole or spot that may need a closer look:

A — Asymmetry: One half looks different from the other.

B — Border: Edges are irregular, uneven, or poorly defined.

C — Color: The spot has uneven coloring or multiple shades.

D — Diameter: The spot is larger than about 6 mm (¼ inch), although concerning spots can be smaller.

E — Evolving: The spot changes in size, shape, color, or appearance over time.

Regular skin checks can make changes easier to notice. If you find a new or changing spot, consider having it checked by a healthcare professional.
