Aug 2026 - we are closing the rescue! 😢
***
Texas Sled Dog Rescue focuses on giving Alaskan Malamutes & Siberian Huskies a second chance.

While in rescue, we will place them in foster homes, provide basic training as needed, and vetting which includes updated vaccinations, spay or neuter and micro-chip. Our volunteers are involved in all facets of rescue including but not limited to fundraising, transporting, evaluating dogs, representing the rescue at local dog events, fostering, etc.

YaPpY First Day of Fall!!

TSDR’s Louise is settling into her foster home and adjusting well. She is patiently waiting for her fur-ever family, ideally one that appreciates a low-key pup who enjoys a backyard to stretch her legs, relax, and soak up the sunshine. Of course, Louise also loves the comforts of indoor living, especially air conditioning! She remains timid with humans, gets along well with other dogs, but car rides are not her favorite activity.

**Adoption fee has been reduced; she is fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed!

YaPpY Patriot Day! It’s hard to believe that 25 years have passed since the terrorist attacks that forever changed our nation. May we always remember the unity, strength, and compassion we showed in the days that followed, and never forget the tragedy and loss of that day. 🇺🇸

We’re excited to share that TSDR’s Salt has been adopted! He now has a family including a furry brother and sister as well as human parents and 2 brothers to call his own. He is doing well so far and surprised everyone by allowing belly rubs from his new dad as his foster parents said goodbye. What a wonderful start to his happily ever after. Yappy tails dance!

We are heartbroken to hear of TSDRs Shadow’s passing a couple of weeks ago! “Shadow was the best dog. Loved to eat anything and everything right up to the end, and loved a squeaky rubber chicken - the loudest, most annoying squeakers were preferable.“

Run free north of the rainbow bridge and wear your silver harness proudly Shadow!! Hugs for his family who miss him terribly! 💔🌈🐾

YaPpY Labor Day! While today celebrates all the hardworking humans out there, our sled dogs have decided to spend the day doing what they do best: relaxing, lounging, and taking plenty of naps!

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share that Alita unexpectedly passed away Friday morning. 💔

From the very beginning, Alita faced more challenges than any dog should. After her ectopic ureter surgery shortly after we rescued her as a spunky 3 mo old puppy, she spent years battling frequent UTIs and kidney disease, seeing 12 different veterinarians and specialists across 5 veterinary centers in the search for answers and relief. We joked she was our “million dollar dog” and we thank woo for all the donations and support over the years for her!!

Despite all the poking, prodding, tests, and appointments, Alita never lost her spirit. She approached every person she met with a positive attitude, endless resilience, and a heart full of love. Along the way, she even changed a few minds about her breed, proving through her actions just how special they can be.

Alita proudly represented both her breed and her rescue at countless events over the years. Whether she was meeting new people, helping educate the public, or simply sharing her sweet personality, Alita had a special way of making people smile and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.

While our hearts are broken into a million pieces, we are so grateful for the 12+ wonderful years we had with her and for the lessons she taught us about perseverance, grace, and unconditional love.

Run free north of the rainbow bridge and wear your silver harness proudly Alita. No more pain, no more appointments, no more infections and no more meds. You earned your wings, and you will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Hugs and paws crossed for her mom, her aunties and the TSDR family during this difficult time! 💔🌈🐾

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day!🌈🐾

Today, we honor our treasured fur-kids who touched our lives so deeply this past year. While we miss them dearly, we find peace in the countless memories, unwavering companionship, and unconditional love they brought into our lives. Their paw prints will forever remain imprinted on our hearts.

YaPpY National Dog Day!! This day celebrates dogs of every breed and background! Whether mixed, purebred, or somewhere in between, every dog deserves a loving, safe home. Thank woo to our pawsome adopters who have done just that for our sled dogs!!

💔 With Heavy Hearts 💔
After 14.5 unforgettable years, we have made the difficult decision to close Texas Sled Dog Rescue.

We are incredibly grateful to every adopter, volunteer, foster, donor, and supporter who helped us save and change the lives of so many pawsome sled dogs. Your compassion and dedication made this mission possible.

While this chapter is ending soon, our commitment to the dogs still in our care remains strong. Salt and Louise, two wonderful huskies, are still looking for their forever homes, and we will continue to support them until they are adopted.

Thank woo for being part of our journey. The legacy of Texas Sled Dog Rescue will live on through every sled dog we helped and every family we brought together.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank woo.
