BREAKING: 12-YEAR-OLD SHOT IN CYPRESS AFTER GUNFIRE TARGETS TRUCK
I’m following an active shooting investigation in the Cypress area after a 12-year-old boy was struck by gunfire Friday night.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 8700 block of Barker Cypress Road near West Road. Initial reports indicated the shooting occurred somewhere near or around Wings N' More off Barker Cypress near Towne Lake.
Investigators say the 12-year-old was sitting inside his parents’ minivan with his parents and three siblings. The family was parked outside a business waiting for another family member to exit.
According to investigators, a dark-colored sedan traveling northbound on Barker Cypress Road fired multiple shots toward a lifted black truck that was traveling through the parking lot.
The family’s minivan was positioned between the lifted truck and the sedan as the sedan traveled parallel to the truck and the shots were fired.
The 12-year-old was struck near his shoulder area.
After the shooting, the child was taken to the standalone emergency room located across from Kroger in the Towne Lake shopping center. Life Flight was called to assist with the transfer and landed in the Kroger parking lot, where the child was transferred for air transport.
The child is currently hospitalized in fair condition.
At this time, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not indicated that the child or his family were the intended targets. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those involved.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
This remains a developing investigation, and additional information may be released as detectives continue their work.

No illnesses or injuries had been reported when the FDA published the notice.
The same 32-ounce product is sold by H‑E‑B. However, Mezzetta has not publicly identified the states, retailers or individual stores that received the recalled lot, so distribution to a specific Houston-area store has not been confirmed.
If your jar matches lot 720106, do not consume it. Keep a photograph of the product and lot number and contact [email protected] for assistance.

📊 TEXAS JUVENILE REFERRALS INVOLVING FI****MS INCREASED 45% IN FIVE YEARS, ACCORDING TO STATE DATA.
The Texas Juvenile Justice Department recorded 2,474 firearm-related referrals in fiscal year 2025, compared with 1,708 in 2020.
Homicide referrals involving juveniles also increased 65%, from 91 in 2020 to 150 in 2025.
Important context: A referral is a case sent to the juvenile justice system. It is not a conviction and does not necessarily represent a different child in every entry.
The figures are statewide. They do not prove that juvenile gun cases increased by the same percentage specifically in Houston or Harris County.
The data provides important context after two Houston-area students were killed near their high schools within days of each other, but those individual cases should not be used alone to establish a local trend.
Families should keep fi****ms unloaded, secured and inaccessible to minors. Threats, gun-related posts or warnings about planned violence should be reported immediately to the school or law enforcement.

🚆 NO RED LINE TRAINS WILL OPERATE BETWEEN DOWNTOWN TRANSIT CENTER AND FANNIN SOUTH THIS WEEKEND.
METRO is temporarily interrupting rail service along the southern portion of the Red Line from the start of service Saturday, September 26, through the end of service Sunday, September 27.
Shuttle buses will replace trains between Downtown Transit Center and Fannin South Park & Ride, departing approximately every 10 minutes.
The affected stretch serves Midtown, the Museum District, Texas Medical Center, the NRG area and Fannin South.
METRO says the interruption is necessary for essential track and equipment maintenance that cannot be completed while trains are operating.
Riders should allow extra travel time and follow signs or staff directions to the shuttle boarding locations.

Galil Importing Corp. is recalling Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning sold in 3.2-ounce clear plastic containers.
Check for:

Lot: GAP11304
The lot number appears on the side of the container beneath the ingredient list.
The product was distributed to retailers, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets in Texas and five other states between November 18, 2025, and September 7, 2026.
No illnesses had been reported when the recall was announced. The company initiated the recall after testing by the Maryland Department of Health found elevated lead levels in a sample.
Do not consume the recalled product. Discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
The company has not identified the individual Texas stores that received it, so Houston-area distribution has not been specifically confirmed.

WESTBURY HIGH STUDENT KILLED; SUSPECT ARRESTED AS FAMILY REMEMBERS HIS DREAMS
A 17-year-old Westbury High School student has died following a shooting outside the school Friday morning.
The student has been identified by his family as LePaul Warren, a Westbury senior and student-athlete who played football and basketball.
Warren’s uncle spoke with reporters following the shooting and remembered his nephew as a young athlete who had dreams beyond the football field.
“He was a starter in football. Dreamed to be an engineer.”
Houston Police have now arrested a suspect in connection with Warren’s death, according to an update provided by HPD during a Friday evening briefing.
Police said investigators had been monitoring the suspect for several hours and became confident they had identified the person responsible. The suspect is being transported to jail for booking.
HPD said investigators are currently awaiting a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, which will allow officers to execute a search of the home as the investigation continues.
The shooting happened near Westbury High School in the area of Dryad Drive and Chimney Rock Road. Earlier in the investigation, HPD said detectives recovered surveillance footage and canvassed the surrounding area for witnesses and additional video.
Warren’s death has left his family, friends, teammates and the Westbury High School community mourning the loss of a young life with plans for the future.
