Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, Des Moines Iowa. Pastor Minna Bothwell in the 13th year of her first call. The congregation was formed in 1886 as Swedish Lutheran Church. Then it became First Lutheran as the city diversified. In 2002 they merged with Central Lutheran (originally a Norwegian congregation) to form Capitol Hill Lutheran Church. CHLC is an open and affirming congregation regardless of race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ability, age, addiction, mental health, imprisonment or economic status.

Their iconic green steeple of this very diverse congregation is a beacon that helps the homeless and those in need find their clothes closet, feeding ministry, and refugee services. They have their own resettlement program with an apartment in the church.

That iconic steeple and the bell tower are crumbling. Quite literally. This congregation is gearing up for a campaign to keep it from falling down. This amazing congregation is boxing above its weight. If you'd like to help out, give me a call.
