Surreal Storie

I’ve been going through old photos of my art lately trying to get past this artist's block and one of my favorite times as an artist was teaching in the Harris County juvenile facilities. I had the chance to work alongside some incredibly talented artists and students, and I feel really lucky for the time I spent there.

Sometimes as an artist I feel stuck having a “normal” job, although grateful for the stability and benefits. I’ve gone through periods where I haven’t had the time or motivation to create much.

Looking back at my journey reminds me how lucky I’ve been to experience art not just as a passion, but at times as a career. I’m grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way who inspired, mentored, and trusted me whether it was teaching a room full of students, providing a grant or just hiring me for a commission.

Its great when you can make a living off of your passion but it's okay to just do it because you love it too. Some things we do for money and some we do for love and I'll do art for love every time so I will get over this slump and see what I create next.
