Summer at SIRE: Keeping Cool in the Texas Heat ☀️
While our riders are building confidence, strength, and independence, our horses are working hard right alongside them!
Texas summers can be challenging, so we take extra steps to keep our therapy horses comfortable and healthy. From fans and electrolytes to cold hosing and plenty of shade, keeping our horses cool is critical in ensuring they can support our riders comfortably throughout the summer.

Summer in Texas is no joke. ☀️
As the temperature rises, so do the flies, mosquitoes, and other biting insects that can cause irritation and distraction for our horses. That's why you'll often see our therapy horses wearing fly masks, fly sheets, and receiving plenty of fly spray throughout the summer months (and even into the fall).
Just like we use sunscreen and bug spray for protection, our horses rely on these tools to stay comfortable, healthy, and free from excess distraction for our riders.
Over the next few weeks, we're taking you behind the scenes of Summer at SIRE to share the care, equipment, and daily routines that help keep our horses thriving through the Texas heat.

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we had to say goodbye to Cody on Monday.
Cody lived a long, love filled, 17 years as the resident office cat. He made sure to greet everyone that walked through the door with a loud meow. If you were sitting alone on one of the couches, he would join you just in case you needed a friend. He absolutely loved taking naps in cardboard boxes, on a saddle pad, or the window ledge where he could catch some sun.
Cody, we will miss you.
