Houston Humane Society volunteers Dawn and Jasmine know that even a little time can make a meaningful difference for a shelter dog. 🐾

Dawn started volunteering more than 12 years ago after reading about Houston Humane Society in the Houston Chronicle. Even though she works 12-hour shifts as a respiratory therapist, she comes in on her days off and spends three to five hours walking dogs.

“Our goal is to get all of the dogs out at least once a day so we could really use more volunteers. Even if someone comes for 1 hour that allows a few more dogs to get out.”

Dawn knows that many dogs arrive feeling afraid and unsure of their new surroundings. Over time, she gets to watch them grow more comfortable.

“But what is so satisfying is eventually seeing those dogs run and play and receive all the love we give them.”

The dogs aren’t the only reason Dawn keeps coming back. She’s also found a community at the shelter. “I have made some amazing friends volunteering at Houston Humane Society.”

Jasmine has been volunteering at Houston Humane Society for the past two years, and it was her love for animals that inspired her to get started. She walks dogs and pitches in wherever she’s needed, whether that means helping staff weigh pets, lending a hand during vaccinations, or keeping animals calm before clinic procedures.

She also enjoys grooming the animals and helping them get ready for their new homes. For Jasmine, the greatest impact volunteers make is “letting them know that they are loved”.

The City of Stafford and Houston Humane Society are proud to team up for our fourth annual pet pantry event on Oct. 24 to help those in need with free pet food and supplies.

The event will run from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Stafford Code Compliance Building (2510 S. Main St.) across the street from City Hall. No appointments are necessary. Staff will serve individuals on a first-come, first-served basis.

The following items will be available at the event: dog dry food, cat dry food, cat litter, dog toys and treats.

We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate our love for pets and help those in need!

Last week marked the 10-year anniversary of the passing of Radar, KPRC2 / Click2Houston official weather dog. 🐾❤️
And so many people have reached out with photos of their very own Radar plushie dolls.

For those who remember, these little Radar plushies were released by Foley’s back in 2004, with proceeds benefiting the Houston Humane Society.

These babies have been treasured and well loved for more than 20 years!
Thank you to everyone who has shared your photos with us. Radar is still bringing people together all these years later.

We called him Hunter, but now his family calls him Milo. 💙

Milo came to Houston Humane Society after an accident left him blind. Since being adopted, he’s been thriving alongside a family who adores him.

His new mom gave us the best update for Happy Tails Tuesday:

"He's doing awesome!! He has three fur siblings that adore him, and one human sibling who is his BFF. He loves chilling by the lake and enjoying the fresh air.

We love him so incredibly much and so grateful to have him in our lives."
