For Allan Curtis of Legendary Escapes, building a swimming pool has never been about simply putting water in the ground.

It’s about creating an entire environment.

After decades of designing and building some truly incredible swimming pools, every project is still a new adventure—another opportunity to take an idea, a backyard and a little imagination and turn them into something completely unexpected.

Because a great swimming pool should be more than a place to swim.

It should be the comfy couch of your backyard—the place everyone naturally gathers, relaxes, talks, laughs and spends time together.

And it should be your refreshing oasis—the place you can escape to without ever leaving home.

Sometimes that means taking inspiration from a place you love and bringing it right into your own backyard.

One of our favorite examples is The Streets of Mackinac, an entire swimming pool environment inspired by Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City, Michigan. From the shapes and textures to the details throughout the space, the goal was never simply to build a pool—it was to create the feeling of stepping into another place.

That’s the fun of what Allan does.

Concrete becomes rock.
A backyard becomes a destination.
A swimming pool becomes part art, part playground, part gathering place—and completely personal to the people who live there.

There aren’t many ordinary days when your job is building places where other people will eventually make some of their favorite memories.
