We are currently seeking dependable and compassionate Youth Mentors to join our team.

Position: Youth Mentor
Pay: $15.00–$18.00 per hour
Schedule: Part-Time – Nights and Weekends
Location: Huntsville, AL

This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in social work, psychology, criminal justice, education, child welfare, behavioral health, or other human-service careers.

College students are encouraged to apply! Gain valuable hands-on experience working with youth while building your résumé and making a positive impact in the lives of children.

Applicants must be willing and available to work nights and weekends.

This addition strengthens a shared commitment to addressing one of the most significant challenges facing our rapidly growing community – affordable and accessible housing. United Way leadership is confident that their programs and those of our nonprofit partners illustrate a powerful collaborative designed to make meaningful progress in addressing critical needs.

This selection of partners is in alignment with the voice of the local Madison County community reflected in the findings from the most recent United Way’s Community Needs Assessment. It clearly shows how the critical issue of housing continues impacts many of the individuals and families this group collectively serves. It no longer affects only those who live in poverty but is stretching into another 24% of our population that includes essential workers in tourism and hospitality, childcare, education, law enforcement and more. Housing affordability is an economic imperative and vital to stabilizing and building independence and resiliency among those that, today, need our help and tomorrow have a chance to contribute mightily.

A huge thank you to Electric Slice Pizza for hosting the boys from Harris Home today!

This was about so much more than pizza. The boys learned about the restaurant industry, what it’s like to own a business, and were guided step-by-step through making their own unique pizzas from scratch. For many, it was their first time experiencing a wood-fired oven, and the pride on their faces as they created something of their own was truly unforgettable.

Experiences like these open doors, build confidence, and show our boys what’s possible. To top it all off, Electric Slice generously sent enough pizza back for the boys who couldn’t attend so no one was left out.

The S.O.N.S (Supporting Our Next Sons) Youth Program is a structured monthly engagement initiative designed to uplift and empower boys ages 13–18 who are currently in foster care. Fountain of Life Community Development Corporation is working with our young men once a month for 6 months to facilitate purposeful, hands-on activities focused on personal development, life skills, emotional wellness, and positive community connection.

Unlike a traditional mentorship model, S.O.N.S. program is activity-driven. Fountain of Life Community Development Corporation will bring trained volunteers to lead each visit, guiding youth through themed experiences that build character and prepare them for a successful and independent future. Their goal is not just to provide a positive hour, but to create a lasting impact through consistent, relationship-centered mentorship programs.

Last month, our incredible volunteers organized a protein and grocery drive to help keep our kitchen stocked with nutritious meals for the boys at Harris Home. Thanks to the generosity of our community, our kitchen was filled with protein-rich foods and other essential groceries that help us provide meals our residents can enjoy every day.

Support like this does so much more than fill our pantry, it reminds our boys that they are surrounded by a community that cares. Every donation helps us provide nourishing meals, create a sense of stability, and make Harris Home feel a little more like home.
