Contemplative life grows through the gentle, repeated return of attention to Love’s abiding nearness amid the ordinary activities of each day.
How might your experience of distraction change if every wandering became another quiet occasion for returning?
“We ought to act with God in the greatest simplicity, speaking to Him frankly and plainly, and imploring His assistance in our affairs, just as they happen.”
—Brother Lawrence, The Practice of the Presence of God

In times of overwhelming crises and our own daily battles, wonder is a revolutionary act. It's a wellspring of love.
We all carry unconscious biases that can immediately disable our instinct for empathy. But it's not the first impulse we are responsible for; it's what follows.
Through conscious practice, we can change how we see the world. When we practice wondering about others, we can retrain our eyes to see no stranger.
Because who we see as kin shapes what we do and how we fight for them.
Try practicing the next time you see someone in the street, say in your mind:
"Sister, brother, beloved—you are a part of me I do not yet know."
It's okay if this practice is hard. It can instead be as simple as wondering what that person likes for dinner.
Will you practice wondering today?

A faithful return to the quiet presence within ordinary life allows faith, hope, and love to shape our actions with gentleness, humility, perseverance, and peace.
What changes in the way we live when ordinary work becomes a place of quiet presence?
“When action and contemplation are united, we have beauty, symmetry, and transformation, lives and actions that heal the world by their very presence.”
Richard Rohr

The Courage to Remain Whole
Beneath the noise of dominance and fear, the deeper claim here is that healing the world begins with reclaiming the parts of ourselves a culture of power has taught us to silence — grief, tenderness, dissent, and the ache for justice — and letting these become the ground of costly, embodied love.
How do we live with soul, integrity, and courage in a time when cruelty and division are rewarded, and gentleness or feeling, in men and women alike, is dismissed as weakness?
Beloved companions on the path, Welcome to the sacred ground where your grief and your hope are equally holy. Something ancient in you already knows what the world too often forgets: the sacred is not distant. It lives in bone and breath, in the wound and the weeping, in the body of every person cast aside as too soft, too foreign, too female, too poor, or too old to matter. When the powerful teach that domination is strength and tenderness is disgrace, they are asking you to abandon this deeper knowing. Do not abandon it.
For generations, empires have found it useful to divide the soul from the body, feeling from reason, the feminine from the masculine, one people from another. This division is not natural; it is manufactured, and it can be unmade. The tears you have been told to swallow, the softness you have been told to armor over, the outrage you have been told to smile through — these are not weaknesses. They are the language your soul speaks when it recognizes injustice. Let that language be heard.
Union is closer than you think. Beneath every division — of gender, of party, of nation, of race — there is one life, breathing through all of it, asking to be honored whole. This is why nonviolence is not passivity, why simplicity is not withdrawal, and why solidarity is not sentiment. Each is a way of insisting that separation is a lie we no longer have to live inside.
Some among us have already paid for this insistence with their lives — ordinary people who chose to stand for the dignity of the excluded rather than the comfort of the powerful. Their courage did not end when their lives did. It asks something of you now.
So bring your whole self forward: your grief, your indignation, your longing for a gentler world. Let a daily practice be the quiet discipline that keeps you rooted enough to act without becoming what you resist. Let your service be specific, not abstract. And when your voice must be raised, let it be raised with a charity that refuses malice, even toward those who have forgotten their own tenderness.
You were not made for domination, and you were not made for despair. You were made, all of you, for love that acts.
