You can make more than $150 for a day of work by signing up to become a poll worker for the midterm election on Nov. 3.

There are three types of poll workers: Clerks, student poll workers and inspectors.

Clerks are the people that greet you when you walk into a voting center and check you in.. Student poll workers do the same job but they must be at least 16, have a 3.0 GPA and have permission from a parent and school officials. Inspectors run entire vote centers and can earn $240 for a full day. You are required to complete two hours of training to be an Inspector.

To be eligible you have to have:
- Registered to vote
- Reliable transportation
- Able to work either a half day as a clerk or a full day as an inspector on Election Day

You can work at one of nine early voting sites starting in October or on Election Day.

Yessss Koby Bluitt!!!! 💗

Eastsider Koby Bluitt started Meals from the M***a in 2022, a vegan education and catering company.People often ask her about where to buy fresh food and she recommends going to the local farmers market. She said those can sound intimidating for some people, especially for the Black community.

“It can sound like this is a white people thing, like white people go to the farmers market,” Bluitt said. “No, we all go to the farmers’ market. We all gotta eat. We all want nourishment.”

That’s why she started Meet M***a at the Market, it is a series of meetups to help people shop for healthy, local food together. Each stop comes with a checklist to help people shop with intention, buy fruit, use what they buy and talk to the farmers who are growing their own food.

You still have an opportunity to go to a Meet M***a at the Market meetup. The last one of the summer is Sept. 20 at Bodi Buzz and Rooted Legacy urban farm, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, we brought together women at different stages of their careers, working across technology, healthcare, mental well-being, entrepreneurship, data and communications for Tech for Impact: Women Shaping Solutions Through Technology during Indiana Women IN Tech Week!

And the conversation made one thing clear: technology can be a tool for solving all kinds of problems.

Martina Jackson, Founder & CEO of CaptureNoire, shared how she’s using imaging technology to address representation in digital spaces and better account for diverse skin tones.

Katara McCarty, LSCC, Founder & CEO of Exhale, spoke about using technology to expand access to culturally grounded mental well-being support for Black women.

Aimee Kandrac, CEO & Co-Founder of WhatFriendsDo, explored how technology can help turn offers of support into meaningful, tangible action when someone is going through a difficult time. And... she has a new business on the market!

Theadora James, MHA, COO of Navigate Maternity, brought her healthcare operations and data analytics experience to the conversation, sharing how technology and better systems can help address inequities in healthcare.
And Laura Romero, a Computer Science student at Ball State University, shared her work using data and AI to explore financial literacy barriers among Midwestern Hispanic entrepreneurs.

Students can also enter to win one of five $1,000 scholarships. To qualify, students must be at least 18, live in Indiana and have a Social Security or Tax ID number. The deadline is Nov. 24.

What can data and AI tell us about the barriers people face in the real world?

Meet Laura Romero, a Computer Science student at Ball State University studying Data Analytics and AI.

Laura’s research began with a question about financial literacy barriers among Midwestern Hispanic entrepreneurs. After developing her project through Ball State’s Impact X innovation course, she returned to the work as a funded university research project.

She has also gained hands-on experience in AI and data engineering through the AI4ALL Ignite accelerator, where she worked on the Tax Burden Equity Analyzer project.

A Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar, Latinos in AI Summit panelist and Vice President of Women in Computer Science at Ball State, Laura is bringing a fresh perspective to the conversation around how technology and data can help us better understand and address real-world challenges.

What happens when healthcare expertise meets a personal commitment to addressing inequity?

Meet Theadora James, Chief Operating Officer of Navigate Maternity, Inc.

With more than 14 years of experience in healthcare operations, project management and process improvement across managed care organizations and hospital systems, Thea brings a deep understanding of how healthcare systems work and where they can work better.

Her passion for this work is personal. Growing up in Gary, Indiana, Thea witnessed health disparities and inequities affecting BIPOC communities across the Midwest. Those experiences shaped her commitment to helping build better systems and improve health outcomes.

With a background in healthcare administration, health administration and data analytics, Thea brings both operational expertise and a data-informed perspective to the work.
