Annual CHIP State of Homelessness: Indianapolis, IN - CHIP Indy 09/30/2026

In 2025, saw a 26% reduction in Veteran homelessness, a reminder that when we invest in the right resources and work together, we can create meaningful change for Veterans and our community.

What’s making a difference? Wraparound support. Local organizations working together to help Veterans find housing quickly while connecting them to the resources and services they need to stay housed. When we put resources where they can truly make a difference, we create stronger outcomes for Veterans and a stronger community for everyone.

She Found Safety. Her Children Found Home. Healing Began.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program helps Veterans and their families find stable housing and prevent homelessness. For many women Veterans, that support may also include addressing unique needs like childcare, safety, and trauma-informed care.

JaQuala and her two sons began working with our team after fleeing domestic violence and experiencing homelessness. While staying in a shelter and facing job loss, she worked closely with her case manager and community partners to rebuild stability.

Today, the family is safely housed. JaQuala has secured full-time employment, returned to school, and her sons are thriving. They are also receiving ongoing mental health support as they continue healing.

Her story is a powerful reminder that with safe housing, compassionate support, and the right resources, hope can become a new beginning. 🏡

A Veteran Stand Down is about more than bringing services together in one place. It’s about creating a welcoming space where Veterans can connect with people who are ready to listen, answer questions and help them find a path forward.

We’re grateful to be part of this event, hosted by The Bros Foundation and presented by Citizens Energy Group. Events like this are important because they bring Veterans directly to the people and organizations that can help.

A special thank you to Broadway UMC for opening its doors and hosting everyone. If you’re attending, come find us at Table R9 in the Housing & Homeless Services area. We’ll be there to listen, answer questions and help connect Veterans with housing and other resources.

Sometimes knowing where to start is the hardest part. We’ll be there to help.

Housing stability takes more than a place to live. 🏠

A recent report from Prosperity Indiana and the National Low Income Housing Coalition found Indiana renters need to earn $24.13/hour to afford the average two-bedroom apartment. The average renter earns just $19.29/hour.

For Veterans facing a housing crisis, this gap can make stability even harder to achieve. Preventing Veteran homelessness requires a comprehensive, holistic and person-centered approach that addresses their housing crisis while connecting them to resources like employment services that help Veterans remain housed and build a stronger future.

If you or a Veteran you know receives care through the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, you may notice a few temporary changes in late August as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs transitions to its new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

During this transition, there may be occasional delays or changes to appointments while staff learn the new system. Urgent and emergent medical needs will continue to be cared for, and Homeless Programs will remain open and operating as close to normal as possible.

To help ensure care isn't interrupted, please think ahead by scheduling any needed appointments in advance. Be sure to also check the flyer below for important dates related to a temporary pause in prescription processing.

This modernized system will help the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and community health partners provide more coordinated, informed care. For the Veterans we serve, connected systems mean connected care and that's a step forward we're excited to see.
