AMO is the first graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. founded in Indianapolis, IN. Louis, Missouri.
Alpha Mu Omega Chapter chapter has a rich heritage of women making a difference in the Indianapolis community and internationally in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority became America's first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. Her roots date back to Howard University, Washington, D.C., where the idea for formation was conceived by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle of St. After her incorporation as a perpetual body in 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha gradually branched out and became the channel through which selected college-trained women improved the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation, and the world. Currently over 615 Alpha Kappa Alpha women call Alpha Mu Omega their home chapter. Having an engaged membership of that size has helped us serve the Indianapolis community effectively for over 93 years. Our chapter membership represents every facet of the Indianapolis community - to name a few - we are educators, business women, lawyers, doctors, theologians and homemakers. Alpha Mu Omega is home to two (2) Diamond Members (at least 75 years of service) and many Pearl (65-74 years of service) and Golden Members (between 50 – 64 years of service). In addition to dedicated life-long members, we have 56 members who were initiated most recently in Fall 2021. This great diversity of our chapter helps to foster strong and sincere bonds of sisterhood.

There’s nothing like Circle City Classic weekend in Indy! 🩷💚
Alpha Mu Omega Chapter was proud to take part in the Circle City Classic Parade alongside our Debutantes, our sisters of Chi Chi Omega Chapter and their Pearls Club, and Alpha Gamma Mu Omega Chapter.
As we celebrated through downtown Indianapolis, we also put service into action by providing snack packs for members of our unhoused community. A beautiful day of sisterhood, service, and community in the Circle City! ✨
Champions Don’t Haze. We build, protect, and lead. As we close National Hazing Prevention Week, Alpha Mu Omega Chapter Graduate Advisors reaffirm our commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and hazing-free sisterhood by taking the Hazing Prevention Pledge.
Now we invite you to make the same commitment. Take the pledge and encourage three Sisters to join you in setting the standard.
Together, we choose respect. We choose safety. We choose genuine sisterhood.

Hazing has no place in our sisterhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Champions Don’t Haze. We Build, Protect, and Lead.
This week, chapters across Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will demonstrate how we set the pace in preventing hazing. Here is how you can participate:
Lead by Example: Set the tone by treating one another with care and respect.
Honor Our Sisterhood: True sisterhood is built on trust and shared purpose — not hazing.
Speak Up: If something doesn’t look or feel right, say something.
Know the Rules: Every member plays a role in creating a safe, respectful experience.
Protect Each Other: Preventing hazing is how we look out for one another.
Champions Don’t Haze. Be the Leader. Protect Our Sisterhood.

Summer break is over, blazers are on, and it was great to be back together for our September chapter meeting! We’re reconnected, refocused, and ready to continue serving our community as we finish the year strong!
