PLTW at RPE is a STEM based curriculum that allows elementary students to have hands on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Project Lead the Way is designed to introduce young minds to the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This STEM curriculum allows students to work on becoming better problem solvers and critical thinkers through structures such as the engineering design process and application of newfound STEM knowledge. Students practice being risk takers, collaborators, designers, technicians, scientists, and mathematicians as they look at learning through a lens of engagement and excitement. Insulators for Coolers Needed! Our second graders are in the midst of cooler builds. We are in need of more insulation. Do you happen to get meals delivered? Any insulation options come with it that you are willing to donate? We could use them for the next few months. Thanks for considering! (No Styrofoam needed at this time.)

Daeger, Naue, Holloway, Nail, and Sipe finished up this round of PLTW last week. Here's a few pics from our science explorations.

Well, that's a wrap on my first round of classes. Third graders worked with Vex to better understand how to build and program. 4th graders explored energy in so many ways. 5th graders built and tested robots. 2nd graders built coolers as they got smarter with matter. 1st worked with designs inspired by nature, especially animals. We've had some great thinking and problem solving along the way.

The 2026-2027 school year is cruising along for our STEM students in Project Lead the Way. It's a different kind of year as my consistent help is a thing of the past. I keep telling myself to SIMPLIFY and find ways to engage kids in a more streamlined way. Ha! Let's just say my brain hurts from trying to figure it all out. Yet, I catch myself in moments where I see the lightbulbs turn on for our thinkers. They test something out. They have a valuable conversation. They build something they didn't know they could build. They struggle with a purpose, and see progress. This is why I do what I do. Here's a tiny glimpse of what we've been up to with the students in these classes: 3rd Rust, 4th McGrath, 5th Kendall, 2nd Sanchez, 1st Staley (coming soon)

What is one consistent factor that my PLTW world spins around? My sun, my guiding force, my consistency when I never fully know what may come my way- my volunteers. They keep me grounded, give me encouraging words to keep me going, always lend a helping hand and a listening ear, and allow our STEM program to be so much more than I could pull off on my own. I'm so grateful for these incredible humans who give their time and efforts each week to my classroom. What a blessing!!

(Yes, I look exhausted. It's the end of the school year, exhausted may be an understatement.)
