Can makeup with SPF replace sunscreen? Usually, no. We typically don’t apply enough makeup to get the SPF protection listed on the label—and we often miss areas like the ears and neck.
Think of SPF makeup as an extra layer of protection, not a replacement for sunscreen.

Did you know UV radiation can damage skin even on cloudy days?
FFA students do - thanks to our new agriculture-focused sun safety curriculum.
We've teamed up with the National FFA Organization to help teens explore how UV affects crops and people and how to work in the sun safely.

Meet our newest Outrun the Sun Scholar!
We’re excited to announce Robert Goodloe as the fifth Outrun the
Sun Scholar at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IU Indianapolis Robert is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Epidemiology with a minor in Population Health Analytics.
He’s focusing his expertise on an important question in melanoma research: Does having vitiligo affect a person’s risk of developing melanoma—and does that risk vary among different racial and ethnic groups? Using data from the NIH All of Us Research Program, Robert hopes his research will help us better understand melanoma risk and improve prevention and early-detection strategies for diverse populations.
We’re proud to support Robert and the next generation of researchers working toward better outcomes for people affected by melanoma. Learn more about Robert’s work and the work of all our scholars at https://outrunthesun.org/research
