🚨 Critical Infrastructure Alert: Water Utilities Under Cyber Attack

The FBI and EPA are warning that malicious cyber actors are targeting internet-facing PLCs, specifically Rockwell Automation MicroLogix 1100 and 1400 controllers. Since July 27, incidents across at least seven states have disrupted water and wastewater operations, causing impacts ranging from loss of monitoring capabilities to pressure loss and flooding.

Did you know that grass clippings are considered a stormwater pollutant? So why is that, you may ask! Similar to fertilizers (explained in our previous posts), lawn clippings contain nutrients that, in significant quantities, are damaging to waterways and waterbodies.
Lawn clippings are also harmful to storm drains and pipes. Large amounts of lawn clippings and other yard debris that enter storm drains can create clogs, resulting in flooding and ponding.

Here are some stormwater-smart tips for managing grass clippings:
- Avoid blowing grass clippings into streets or onto sidewalks;
- Use bags to collect excess grass clippings and dispose of properly; and
- If grass clippings and/or other yard waste are clogging storm drains, safely dislodge them with a rake or shovel, and dispose of in a trash can.
