**THE BLACK CHURCH AND CLIMATE JUSTICE**
Last night, Climate Ambassador, Apostle Sharyn Cosby moderated an informative and inspiring evening sponsored by Green Chalice: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In the words of Rev. Scott Hardin-Nieri, co-Minister of Green Chalice of Disciples Home Missions:
Many thanks to everyone who joined us for the Black Church and Climate Justice Webinar— and to the speakers whose wisdom, testimony, and theology reminded us that climate justice is a black church concern, a community concern, and a spiritual concern.
Here is some of the wisdom we experienced together.
Apostle Sharyn Cosby, host and moderator:
"The black church has always stood at the crossroads of suffering and hope."
"When the black church rises, hope rises with it."
Rev. Dr. Delesslyn Kennebrew, opening prayer and meditation:
"The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants too."
"May we care for the earth and everything in it — the world and its inhabitants, too."
Javen Beck, Be the Neighbor Intern:
"There's no justice without service."
Rev. Richard Williams, II, Beacon Center:
"People should not have to hit rock bottom before someone catches them."
"Faith is a bridge, not a boundary."
Dr. Arthur Carter, Phillips Theological Seminary:
"There is no good news apart from God's creation."
"Ecological justice means not just looking the part — it means producing the fruit."
