The next events in our data center fight!

Our priorities now are:
1. Telling the MDC to vote NO to the millions of dollars Sabey is asking for in tax breaks
2. Fundraising for the neighbors taking legal action to stop the data center, so they're not stuck bearing the attorney fees alone

A webinar that is scheduled last minute in the middle of the work day, with no real opportunity for our voices to be heard, does NOT count as community engagement. And when it comes from these 2 groups, which have supported data center development in Indy, we have to question their real motivation. Real engagement requires listening. Decatur Township residents have made their stance clear. When will we be heard?

While we take major issue with the way this was done, we still feel it's important to get the word out. Here is the registration link if you are able to attend at 2:30pm tomorrow (Friday, Sep 11th): 7377236e-f9eb-4537-9455-1c29d9cae97b@277f3f8b-5b58-4fa4-a4fe-7f215c3271a7/registration" rel="ugc" target="_blank">https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/7377236e-f9eb-4537-9455-1c29d9cae97b@277f3f8b-5b58-4fa4-a4fe-7f215c3271a7/registration

You heard it here! The MDC voted to pass a moratorium for Indianapolis, until a proper ordinance can be put in place. The three data centers already proposed in Indianapolis will not be impacted directly, but we are all continuing to fight. In Decatur Township, we are proceeding with judicial review to challenge the passing of the Sabey data center. In the meantime, the MDC is voting on a ~$243,000,000 tax break (abatement) for Sabey. We are calling on them to reject this tax break, especially when this project harms a working class community. The next vote for the tax abatement is on September 16th.

We just learned the MDC is having a pre-meeting with Sabey’s attorney and director of real estate at 12pm on Wednesday August, 19th. This meeting is open to the public. The meeting is also at the City-County building, in the T-260 Conference Room on the 2nd floor.

Here's the rundown on the Sabey tax breaks (AKA abatements), which total to $242.8 million.

Josh Bain was appointed by Governor Braun as IURC Commissioner, a position that's responsible for making decisions in the public interest about utility services and costs statewide. This video shows how close the Sabey hyperscale data center (that Bain refused to oppose) is to homes in Decatur Township. Bain caved to the pressure at the city and state level to support the Sabey project, and now has a shiny new position, leaving his role as the councilor for Decatur Township behind.

Now that the City-County Council voted to pass it, there is only one more vote for the data center moratorium. The power now lies with the Metropolitan Development Commission. We call on them to do right by the people of Indianapolis.

We hope to see you there!

If you can't make it, stay tuned for other ways to support our fight against Sabey, as well as the other current Indianapolis data center projects.
