What happens when science, technology, creativity, and education come together?
On Real Asiaโs Taiwan High-Tech Tour, students explore the many sides of Taiwanโs innovation landscape, from science and engineering to semiconductors, robotics, advanced manufacturing and digital creativity.
Students dive into interactive science and technology exhibits, then work through team-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) challenges that reward experimentation and problem-solving. They explore how structural engineering and architecture come together in the structures around them, turning everyday spaces into lessons in physics, design, and innovation.
๐ด๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐
A visit to a leading Taiwanese high-tech company puts students at the heart of real-world automation, engineering, and innovation. Through company tours and hands-on workshops, they get a closer look at how technology is developed and applied by the people working in the industry every day. Students also visit a local school, teaming up with Taiwanese peers on technology projects and seeing how different perspectives lead to stronger solutions.
Students explore the journey of semiconductor technology, discovering how tiny chips power the phones, computers, vehicles, and technologies we rely on every day. Itโs a closer look at the technology behind modern life and at the role Taiwan plays in this global industry.
๐ด๐ฅ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป
Students meet machines built to move, interact, and solve real problems, then build one of their own. Working in teams, they assemble, wire, test, and troubleshoot a robot until it finally moves the way they intended, a small victory that tends to be the proudest moment of the whole trip.

Innovation isn't only found in labs. Students spend an evening beneath the stars in an astronomy center, wander a design-driven urban district full of local art and independent shops, and step into a virtual reality art experience that shows how digital tools are reshaping what it means to create.
By the end, students leave with more than new knowledge. They leave having built, tested, questioned, and experienced the ideas behind the technologies shaping our world.

Picture this: your students hiking through one of China's most spectacular mountain gorges, learning ancient papermaking techniques from local artisans, and sharing songs and dances with members of the Bai and Tibetan communities. This is not a typical school trip. This is Real Asia.
In our last edition of More Real Asia in China, we took you through the rainforests and tea forests of Southern Yunnan. Now, we head north, into the Bai, Naxi, and Tibetan communities of Northern Yunnan, where diverse ethnic cultures offer students a completely different side of China.
Our journey begins in Dali, where students explore the historic streets of Dali Ancient Town before heading out to the shores of Erhai Lake. In nearby Xizhou, they get hands-on with local Bai culture, learning how to make the famous baba pancakes, trying traditional woodblock printing techniques, and participating in a tie-dye tapestry making workshop.
From there, we continue to Shaxi, an ancient town once connected to the historic Tea Horse Road. Students explore the surrounding mountains, learn about local plants and traditional ways of life, and meet members of the local Bai community. The day ends with traditional Bai songs, dancing, and a bonfire, creating opportunities for genuine cultural exchange and connection.
The journey continues to Lijiang, where students discover Naxi writing, beliefs, and traditional crafts before taking part in learning one of the oldest crafts in human history: papermaking. They then take on a full day of hiking above one of the deepest canyons on earth. As we travel deeper into Yunnan, students learn about the history and communities shaped by ancient trading routes. They meet museum curators, try their hand at the art of traditional black pottery, and experience Tibetan culture through food, art, religious traditions, and community activities.
Before concluding the trip in Shangri-La, we visit the national park in Tacheng, home to one of China's rarest primates. Back in Shangri-La, students explore the Old Town and take part in one last hands-on workshop: Thangka painting.
More than just a destination, Northern Yunnan combines traditional craftsmanship, high-altitude adventure, and genuine Bai, Naxi, and Tibetan cultural exchange that truly inspires curiosity and connection.
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, we're reminded that the best journeys, like the best celebrations, bring people together. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival ๐ฎ๐ฅฎ๐ from all of us at Real Asia โ and there's no better time to start planning the journey that brings your students together next.

Picture this: your students standing beneath a rainforest canopy, learning survival cooking techniques from local villagers, then joining Dai drum dancing as the sun sets over Xishuangbanna. This is not a typical school trip. This is Real Asia.
At Real Asia, we believe the deepest learning goes beyond the classroom, and the best journeys go beyond sightseeing. That's why we are excited to introduce our newest, highly curated educational destination: Yunnan, China!
In this edition of More Real Asia in China, we will take you on a journey through Southern Yunnan.
This past June, we took our students to Xishuangbanna, a region bordering Myanmar and Laos, known for its lush rainforests and rich Dai heritage. It is a place less traveled yet one that embodies the "Real Asia" experience we pride ourselves on.
Our adventure began beneath the rainforest canopy, where our students explored one of China's most dramatic rainforest walkways before learning traditional survival cooking techniques alongside local instructors. Instead of simply observing local culture, they became part of it, sharing meals, stories, and laughter with villagers while discovering the rhythms of Dai drum dancing and martial arts.
One of the most meaningful highlights of the journey was our community service project in a remote Dai village. Working alongside local leaders, our students helped prepare an exhibition space dedicated to preserving the traditional elephant-foot drum dance, an important part of Dai cultural heritage. They also learned the art of bamboo basket weaving before donating their handcrafted baskets back to the community, making a small but meaningful contribution that will remain long after the trip.
The cultural journey continued with a visit to a Dai Buddhist temple, where our students discovered the ancient Dai script, observed Buddhist traditions, and created their own palm leaf manuscripts. The day concluded with refreshing water-splashing festivities with local villagers, a fun-filled tradition symbolizing the washing away of bad luck, illness, and past misfortunes.
From there, we traveled to Pu'er, a region renowned for its world-famous tea culture. Our students learned the art of tea picking and tasting at the world's first tea-themed UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest.
More than just a destination, Yunnan combines cultural exchange, meaningful service, and authentic local experiences that truly inspire curiosity and connection.
Imagine your students coming home with stories like these, not just souvenirs. Spots for our 2027 Yunnan program are limited. Contact us today to start planning an experiential educational journey your students will never forget.

There's a version of China your students have probably never encountered: one where robots greet you at the door of a restaurant, where cars drive themselves through city traffic, and where some of the country's leading technology companies open their doors to reveal how the future is being built. That's the China we want to introduce your students to on our brand-new China High-Tech Tour. From Beijing to Hangzhou and Shanghai, our journey brings together history, technology, business, culture, and hands-on discovery.
Our adventure begins in Beijing, where China's past provides the foundation for understanding its present, balancing ancient tradition with cutting-edge innovation. Students step from the ancient stones of the Forbidden City and the Great Wall (Mutianyu) straight into tomorrow, with a behind-the-scenes look at one of China's major EV Factories and a guided interactive robot challenge. We head south to Hangzhou aboard a high-speed train, where scenic West Lake and traditional culture meet one of Chinaโs most exciting technology ecosystems. Students explore the legacy of innovation at the world-renowned Alibaba's headquarters and dive into hands-on tech at an interactive tech exhibition space, beautifully balanced by a peaceful boat ride on West Lake and a traditional oil-paper umbrella-making workshop.
From Hangzhou, we continue toward Shanghai, China's largest city and a dazzling global financial hub that blends a futuristic skyline with rich historic charm. Students get hands-on with cutting-edge robotics, go behind the scenes with a leading AI innovator, and experience emerging technology firsthand with an exclusive drone flying experience. Beyond the tech, students also wander through the classical beauty of Yu Garden, explore the Old Town Bazaar and French Concession, and take in the dramatic skyline along the Bund.
Throughout the journey, Real Asia brings the destination to life through local cuisine, cultural workshops, company and technology experiences, guided exploration, and meaningful encounters with the places shaping China today.

Meet Diana Dilixiati, our trip expert who perfectly embodies our commitment to local expertise, culture, and language. Her life story reflects one of the most well-traveled, multicultural journeys on our team.
Born and raised in Urumqi, Xinjiang, Diana is a proud member of the Uyghur community, known for its distinct culture and traditions within China. Fueled by a passion for visual storytelling, she earned graduate degrees in documentary filmmaking from the Communication University of China and Waseda University in Tokyo.
Diana then spent eight years in Japan working as a producer and director. During this time, she traveled extensively across Asia to document diverse cultural stories in destinations like Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, and Singapore. Through her lens, she developed an extraordinary understanding of the people, traditions, and cultural nuances that make each destination unique. Her deep connection to these regions is further enhanced by her remarkable language skills; she is fluent in Uyghur, Mandarin, Japanese, and English, as well as conversational in Korean and Russian.
Looking to deepen her expertise, she later returned to academia at the University of British Columbia, where she studied Asian Studies with a research focus on the linguistic relationships between Central Asian and East Asian languages. After completing her studies, she brought her passion for culture and visual storytelling into education, teaching visual arts at a high school in Vancouver.
Today, Diana brings this combination of filmmaking expertise, linguistic mastery, and academic curiosity to Real Asia, curating itineraries with a storyteller's eye for authentic, immersive experiences in China, Japan and the rest of Asia.

For most travelers, Japan means temples, cherry blossoms, and bullet trains. But last year, Real Asia took two groups of art students to experience Japan beyond sightseeing, galleries, and museums. Through hands-on workshops with Japanese Sensei, students discovered that some of Japanโs most meaningful art lessons happen not behind glass, but directly in their hands.
The journey began with students choosing their own kimono from an array of patterns, colors, and motifs. What started as a simple fitting became a lesson in design language: how color, motif, and silhouette communicate identity in Japanese culture. Every pattern carries character, and every combination creates a different expression. Each student was their own artist, expressing individuality through their choice.
They then discovered the intricate world of Edo-Kiriko, Japanโs traditional cut-glass craftsmanship. Students selected their own glass and pattern before learning how to cut it by hand under expert guidance. It was a true learning experience, teaching students how design, precision, patience, and philosophy come together to create a finished work of art.
The final experience brought students into the delicate art of wagashi, Japanโs traditional sweets. In Japanese culture, food is appreciated with the eyes before it is tasted. As the saying goes in Japan, ใๆฅๆฌๆ็ใฏ็ฎใง้ฃในใใ Nihon ryลri wa me de taberu, which means โJapanese cuisine is eaten with the eyes.โ It was only fitting that the art students designed their own sweets. Led by a sensei, students learned that each shape and color carries a season, a story, and an emotion. At the end, each student left with a small, edible piece of art theyโd designed themselves.
At Real Asia, it is important to us that students donโt just see culture but participate in it. Watching a master shape a wagashi sweet is instructive. Sitting beside them and cutting your own glass pattern, choosing your own kimono, and shaping your own sweet, is transformative.
Whether youโre leading a fine arts program, a cultural studies course, or a language immersion trip, Real Asia can design a hands-on Japan itinerary that turns traditions into experience.

Introducing our trip expert, Kate Hou! Kate is no stranger to cross-cultural exchange, international education or building meaningful relationships with clients and partners around the world.
Born in Shanghai, educated in the U.S., and shaped by more than a decade at the crossroads of cross-border education and cultural exchange, Kate brings a rare fluency in both program development and genuine human connection. She holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., as well as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Broadcast Television Journalism from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai.
Having lived and worked across Asia, including Taiwan, Korea, and the Philippines, she understands that discovering a destination is about more than simply seeing the sights; it is about understanding the people, stories, and traditions. "I've always believed that travel is one of the most powerful forms of education. It invites us to step outside what we know and see the world through someone else's eyes," shares Kate.
For Kate, that connection between travel and learning is deeply personal. As an amateur musician and violinist, her early international performance experiences introduced her to the power of people-to-people exchange and grew her interest in connecting cultures. At just 14 years old, she traveled to Japan on a performance tour across nine different cities, staying with host families and performing with local orchestras, including a memorable co-performance with Waseda University in Tokyo. Not only is music her first passport, but she also learned that "You don't need a shared language to move people, you just need to show up and really listen." This is a lesson that still shapes how she works today.
When she's not working, you'll likely find her traveling with her own family. "The best trips are the ones that surprise you," she says. "I want every itinerary I build to give someone that same feeling, that little jolt of, 'I didn't expect this.'"
