The sun is still out in Seattle in September! But even when it starts raining, spending time outdoors can actually help protect your child’s vision. Research shows that natural light and looking at distant objects, give growing eyes a much-needed break from screens and close-up work.

Kids who spend more time outside are less likely to develop nearsightedness (myopia), and they can develop better depth perception.

So keep it up! Get outside, play, explore and bask in one of the simplest ways to support healthy vision for life.

Show some ❤️ to our recent graduate! “Elenore’s favorite part of vision therapy is her wonderful therapist and the games they played together. Her therapist makes learning fun! Elenore was having trouble reading and her OT identified her as needing vision therapy. It has helped her both with her reading and with how adventurous she can be with her sports and playground activities now that she can use her eyes more efficiently to navigate the world around her.”

We are so proud of you! May all future play dates at the park be positive adventure!!

Wow! 🤩 Show some ❤️ to our recent graduate and read what her mom has to say, “Our 5 year old daughter, Kirra, recently graduated from an intensive vision therapy program - twice a week for 2.5 months over the summer. We cannot be more grateful. Before starting, Kirra was dealing with a lot of frustration. Her reading and writing were clearly being held back by her eyes - issues with eye teaming, depth perception and smooth pursuit were making everyday tasks harder than they needed to be. We had been working with an OT that referred us to vision therapy, and that referral changed everything. Once the vision piece was properly addressed, things started coming together for Kirra in a big way. Kirra worked hard and the results showed. Not only did her eyes improve, the overall growth Kirra experienced as a person was obvious. In our short 2.5 month intensive Kirra built self confidence, awareness, crossbody integrations, retained primitive reflexes were integrated in her brain. We were given amazing ieas of activities we now play together as a family!

Ginger and Teresa - we love you forever! Thank you for your patience, encouragement and just being exactly as you are. You were exactly what Kirra and our family needed at the exact right time. I am forever grateful to you both for changing our lives.

Before starting Vision therapy, we were apprehensive - it seemed expensive and we weren’t sure what to expect, especially after trying other therapies in the past that made minimal impact.

Very quickly, though, we realized it was worth far more than we imagined. It’s be life changing for Kirra’s physical well-being and confidence and for our whole family. We’ve become more mindful of our younger child’s development and the activities we choose to play together as a family to support their visual health and overall growth.”
Thank you for trusting us with your care! We wish you the best in your future.

🦈 It’s shark week! Try the visual divergence shark challenge. Relax your eyes, pointing them as if you’re looking through the screen. If you can do this not only will you see a shark in the middle with all its features, it means your brain can coordinate information from both eyes, a skill important for depth perception and visual comfort.

👀 👩‍🎓 “My eyesight started getting blurry and sometimes I saw double when my eyes got tired, for example when I read a lot. Now I almost never see double or get blurry vision! My favorite part of VT was the computer games, for example the converge/diverge car game.

You get Summit bucks and you can use them to buy cool toys and things.”

👏🏽 Way to go, Kai! You worked hard and gained so many visual skills. Best of luck to your future!

Yes, yes, yes!! “I was having trouble focusing my eyes together. It caused me to sometimes see double and struggle with depth perception and spatial awareness. It also made school harder as my eyes would get distracted by everything in the room while I needed to focus on the teacher. I can now control and focus my eyes together, making everyday life and playing baseball easier. Teresa and Dr. Tina helped me make the all-star team this year, and my favorite part of vision therapy is how they related it to baseball. I also loved earning bucks.

Vision therapy is hard and can be very frustrating at times. Daily at home exercises and traveling 4 hours once a week for in person therapy took a ton of effort, but it was worth it! Vision therapy won’t be easy, but you truly get from it what you put into it. Take it one day at a time, make daily exercises your norm, and celebrate small successes.”

Way to go, Jack We wish you the best depth perception and spatial awareness in every game going forward in your life. ⚾️

☀️ Shoutout to EMILY! She recently graduated from her vision therapy program. Here’s what her mom had to say:
“Emily didn’t know she wasn’t seeing well. Her previous eye exams showed 20/20 vision. But school, especially reading smaller & denser texts, was very hard. Words, sentences, and letters moved around. Also, moving in the world was a little bit challegning with lots of stumbling, tripping, running into edges and corners.

Afterwards, reading is much easier! It’s actually fun to read! Emily WANTS to read. Schools is more interesting because it is understandable & can be done more independently. Also, no more tripping on the stairs.

Emily enjoyed every single session. She loved how positive her therapist, Teresa, was in all the progress made. Mom also benefited from the encouragement & reassurance that Teresa & Dr. Ashley gave. Also the Summit bucks were SO motivating! Fantastic reinforcement tool.”

We are proud of you Emily (and mom!) It takes a team, and you two were a fantastic duo! 📕 ❤️
