Today has become a day of mourning, remembrance, and reflection. Remembrance is not passive. It requires storytelling, teaching, and sharing memories—so the weight of that day does not fade into history alone. For those who did not live it, we must teach remembrance.

Eastside Fire & Rescue commemorated the 25th anniversary of 9/11 today with the City of Issaquah at Station 73. Representatives and community members came to the Fire Station to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost.

In 2014, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey released its final World Trade Center artifacts to the City of Mercer Island. Among those artifacts were sections of concrete and structural steel from the underground structure at the World Trade Center. A portion of that concrete eventually came here, to Station 73. Our Local 1762 helped support the effort that brought the artifact to Washington. This memorial carries with it the history of September 11th, the journey of that artifact across the country, and the firefighters from coast to coast who stopped along the way to honor what it represented.

Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, the concrete gives us a direct and tangible connection to that day.

Wrights Springs Fire in Klamath OR. The fire is currently contained within its footprint at 54,367 acres and firefighters continue to hold an improve the lines . Battalion Chief Seth Merritt is working as Branch Director(OPBD) on Branch 1, which is the East half of the fire with 4 Divisions assigned.

The Big Grass Fire started in Oregon and moved into Idaho, a considerable distance. Capt. Aaron Merritt worked for two weeks in Nevada as the south end of the fire was less than 2 miles from crossing yet another state line. The fire is now over 580,000 acres and has over 570 miles of fire line.

There are many steps in the process of securing a career in Fire/EMS. Interviewing is a very important aspect of this process and can be intimidating to many individuals. King County Fire & EMS Agencies invite you to a free session aimed at improving interview skills with the goal of acing your Fire/EMS Service Interviews. We are offering mock interview panels and personalized feedback to individuals currently pursuing a career in Fire/EMS. Additional opportunities include information on the hiring process, best practices for interview day, networking with professional first responders, and connecting with other prospective Firefighter/EMTs. We encourage people of color, immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and veterans to attend and help us better represent the communities we serve.
