Catholic divorce has a twist the world might not expect
A lot of people out there think an annulment is a Catholic divorce— it’s not. Annulments say that the thing that happened on the wedding day suffered from a defect on that day, and no marriage happened. Divorce is sundering two people who are joined in marriage— their wedding day was as intended—which involves a lifelong commitment to the good of the spouse. If separation needs to happen, it should be with the hope—however remote—of reunion.
Frustrating marriages retain their fundamental meaning— to still work for the good of one’s spouse.
