25 Years of Research — Week 25

As we continue our 25-year journey of innovation, The Rane Center remains committed to advancing venous care through research that helps improve diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for patients with complex venous and lymphatic conditions.

This week, we are highlighting research on the management of chronically obstructed IVC filters. While IVC filters can be an important treatment option when medically necessary, they can sometimes contribute to long-term blockages in the major veins of the abdomen and legs.

The research shows that placing a stent across a blocked IVC filter can be a safe and effective way to restore blood flow. The success of the stent depends more on the severity of vein damage from previous blood clots and the treatment needed to reopen the vein than on whether the stent crosses the filter itself.
