AITA for refusing to hand over my phone to a stranger?
I (17F) was babysitting for a neighbour (Jane) tonight. She had heard of me through a friend of hers (Kate) who is someone I babysit for regularly - so when Kate asked me to babysit for Jane and gave glowing recommendations of how lovely Jane was to me (I'm quite shy) and how good I was to Jane - I thought "sure. I enjoy babysitting, love kids, etc - why not?" My mother took me over to Jane's house, introduced herself, gave Jane her number and left once she saw that there were actually kids there, that Jane and her husband Peter were getting ready to leave, that it was legit basically.
Jane and Peter left and I babysit the kids who were cool kids. I watch a movie, clean up the mess we had made in the kitchen (spaghetti with toddlers is a nightmare!) and chill on my phone. Nothing I do on my phone while I am at Jane's is anything near 'inappropriate'. I do have a lockable folder with some inappropriate things on there (aka anime and manga that are definitely NOT G rated) but don't touch that folder at all while I'm there.
Jane comes home at 10pm, checks on the kids, checks out the house and as I'm waiting to be paid, she turns to me and says "before I pay you - I need to look at your phone. I want to make sure that you didn't take photos of my house or my kids or look at anything rude". I ask her whether she means she wants to look...
AITA for quietly packing my stuff and leaving my family’s house without telling anyone after my dad threatened to kick me out?
I (23F) live at home. I am in grad school and work part time + intern at an office. I graduate in June and I’ve been applying to jobs as much as I can so I can finally move out. My sister (20F) also lives at home but is doing school online and doesn’t work, I try to help with chores around the house as much as possible, although it’s difficult since I leave the house early in the morning and come home late at night. Last week, I came home and there were clean dishes in the dishwasher, I said I’m gonna take a quick shower then empty the dishwasher and my dad went on a rant about how I’m useless and never help around the house and that my sister is always the one doing everything, I explained that I do help and that just because they haven’t seen me help doesn’t mean that I don’t, he asked me to give him an example and I told him that I took the garbage out the night before, the conversation escalated to him saying that I should shut up and not argue any longer because he can easily make me homeless if he wanted to. I said ok and went upstairs, the next morning while everyone was still asleep I packed my things and left and I’ve been sleeping in my car for a week and taking showers at my gym, later in the day after I left my parents called and my mom texted me asking where I am when I didn’t come home when I...
AITA for saying not again and not being happy for my daughters pregnancy?
On phone
My daughter got pregnant the second year into college, it was not a good time. My husband and I stepped up so she could finish college, which she did. She just graduated and just got a job. The problem is at the moment she can not afford childcare or rent since her job kinda sucks.
We were hoping she would be moving out by the end of the year. She told us today that she is pregnant again. When she told us I said not again. She asked if I was happy for her and I told her no. That we will not look after another kid and we already wanted her to find her own place by the end of the year or next summer at the latest.
She is pi**ed at us and we got into an argument. She thinks we are as****es.
Where's the f__king guy? Why isn't he picking up the childcare bill?
AITA for not letting my daughter meet my ex's family?
My ex (M) and I dated for year in our 25s and parted ways on good terms. Our last encounter a year later let to the birth of our daughter (L). About a year into L's life, M was diagnosed with a terminal illness and she passed away when L was about 2. During her last few months, she moved in to my place and I helped her liquidate all her assets and put them in a fund for L while I took care of everyone.
I know that M was no contact with her family for the longest time but she never divulged why despite asking her a few times. When the reality that she would never see L grow up truly set in, M was a sobbing mess and was actively having panic attacks. Her final wish which made in front of me and her friends, was that no matter what happens, L should never ever interact with her family. To comfort her, I made the promise and even went as far as getting legal documents signed which would state that should something happen to me, her godparents (our best friends) even though my family would have been more than happy to take care of L, I know that they would not be able to keep my promise.
L is 5 now and she is my whole world, and we were living our happy little lives until ex's mother found us. She came to my door, introduced herself and asked to speak to me. Since L was right in, I didn't want to risk...
WIBTA for uninviting everyone with a plus 1 from our wedding?
We never gave the option for a plus one. They've gotten the invites, RSVP'd that they're coming, and then written out '+1' themselves, most of them on the back of the invite. We have a set amount of everything, and have paid for an exact number of people to attend, but we also paid for 10 people more than we planned in case people brought plus ones without clearing it.
However, the number of plus ones currently means we would need 20 extra seats, not 10. We've only discussed it with 4 or 5 of them directly, and they all said some variation of 'it's not fair that you invited me and not this person'. At this point it would be easier/cleaner to just uninvite the people who added plus ones without permission.
Would we be the as****es if we uninvited the people with plus ones? Info: We invited complete units (parents and children, husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends) and of the 20 plus ones who have been invited, some are boyfriends/girlfriends we didn't know about, which we'd counted for and would be covered by the 10 extra seats, but some are people we didn't even think of, for example one of my fiance's cousins, who he is related to, has written one of her cousins as a plus one.
My fiance is not related to, and has never met, her cousin, who is from the other side of her family. One of my cousins invited one of her friends who I have met in passing a few years ago and that's the extent...
AITA for telling my mom to not have any more kids?
I(16F) live with my parents and 11 siblings. I'm the 4th kid, and the ages range from 20 to 1. We live in a 4 bedroom house, but it is so cramped with everyone in bunks and no privacy. My parents also put most of the responsibility of the younger kids on us while they lay down and watch TV. True, they can have their breaks but they take them so often that I don't really get to be a teenager.
Last night, after my mom told me to but J+A(3) to bed, I told her to do it herself as I need to study. She said that it is my responsibility as an older child. I lost my temper and told her that she can't take care of her 12 kids as it is, and that she should give up her dream of 15 children because she’s depriving the younger ones of a better life. AITA?
TL;DR My mom has 12 kids and wants 15, and I lost my temper and said that she shouldn’t have any more because she can’t take care of all of them as it is.
AITA for telling my girlfriend if she's going to just throw what I make away she can cook for herself?
I (30M) live with my little brother (28M) and my girlfriend (30F) and sometimes neither of us will feel like cooking, so when the other goes to cook we ask them to cook for us too. It's a system that works out and not one thats abused, we normally cook for ourselves but sometimes we also cook a big meal for everyone in the house. We also all pitch in for the grocery bill, most of whats in the house is for us to use and specific stuff meant for just that person are marked and told in advance.
Lately when my girlfriend has asked me to cook her something that I am making for myself and I have, I wake up the next morning to find most or all of it in the garbage. I am not a world class cook by any means, but I don't burn my food or under season it either. After the last time when she asked me to cook her something I told her no, that I am tired of seeing food wasted (not to mention the time I took to cook for her) and that if she's going to keep throwing food away like that, she can cook for herself.
My brother agrees with me on the subject. That the food waste is annoying and frustrating to see and it needs to end. Some of our friends agree too while others are saying I should just cook for her anyways and calling me an a__hole for 'letting her go hungry'.
Well reddit. AITA?
AITA for not wanting to go workout with my male friend anymore because I saw there's a lot of cute guys at the gym?
I went with him originally because he's very knowledgeable about it and I said maybe he could show me some of the exercises like how to do squats and such. Since then we got in the habit of going together and becoming workout partners. However as this is part of my glow-up period, where I lose weight and get more toned and then hotter guys start to notice me more, I've been thinking there's some cute guys at this gym but if they see me with my friend they'll assume he's my boyfriend.
Because of this I told him it'd be better if we didn't go together anymore. When he asked me why I explained it to him but he said that was silly of me and claimed even I should be happy if being with him prevented other guys from hitting on me. AITA for rather wanting to go on my own from now?
AITA for calling my wife out after she called herself the breadwinner?
First of, I do not believe in the concept of breadwinners. They are an outdated term.
I live in Victoria, and Covid is all but eradicated. There are very loose lockdowns if any. A couple of my friends made a small party to celebrate it.
We were talking about how finances were absolutely fu**ed now, and my wife casually mentions that she was a breadwinner. That’s objectively false. Even this year, when I got let go for a month, I still made about 50% more than her. I wouldn’t’ve cared if she said there were no breadwinners, but she did say an objectively incorrect thing.
I just said “Don’t Breadwinners earn more than their partner? I don’t think you do”
Later, she said I totally embarrassed her. She said she made a little white lie to her friends a couple months ago and she wanted to keep it up. I don’t think it’s healthy to lie at the expense of others, but IDK.
So, AITA?
AITA for kicking out my brother’s friend and his wife for disregarding my wife
My brother invited his best friend and his wife on my wife's birthday, my wife and I knew his best friend because we met him before a couple of times but we met his new wife for the first time. His wife asked my wife as to what she does and my wife responded to her by telling her that she's a house wife. His wife gave a shocked face to my wife and asked her 'why', my wife said because she enjoys being a housewife and she doesn't think it's wrong.
She laughed and said that 'or you are just lazy' and told my wife that she should find a job, I told her that my wife is not lazy and she supports me so she should mind her own business. She kept arguing as it was personal to her and when I had enough I told her that my wife is better than her and she probably has to work 'extra hard' to please her boss. She got offended and so did her husband and I kicked both of them out.
My brother told me that I went to far by insulting his friend and the wife and when I asked him if they didn't go too far when they insulted my wife he said that they have a point and everyone should be working in this day and age. I didn't want to argue with him so I asked him to leave as well because I didn't want to ruin my wife's day by arguing with him as well. But my mom says...
