Security software can flag suspicious activity. Who investigates the alert and decides what happens next?

That’s where Managed Detection and Response—MDR—adds value.

MDR combines security technology with human expertise to monitor activity, investigate potential threats, and help coordinate a response.

Why does that matter? Business systems keep changing. New applications, cloud services, vulnerabilities, and attack methods mean security needs ongoing attention.

An effective approach includes:

• Monitoring the systems covered by your service.
• Reviewing alerts to understand what matters.
• Investigating suspicious activity in context.
• Taking or coordinating response actions under an agreed plan.
• Adjusting protections as risks and business needs change.

MDR works alongside updates, multifactor authentication, employee training, and backups as part of a broader security program.

Ask your provider: What is monitored, during which hours, and who is authorized to respond?

To discuss Computer Ties cybersecurity services, call 517-788-6393.

Who keeps track of your business technology between service calls?

Computers need maintenance. Software needs updates. Employees need support. Equipment needs a replacement plan.

When those responsibilities fall between busy staff members, important work can be missed.

Managed IT gives your business an ongoing process for:

• Maintaining computers and servers.
• Managing updates and monitoring device health.
• Helping employees resolve technical problems.
• Keeping track of equipment and configuration.
• Planning upgrades around business needs and budget.

It also gives your staff a team to contact that understands your environment.

At Computer Ties, we help organizations take care of their technology so their employees can focus on their own work.

Think about the files your business needs to get through a normal day: schedules, accounting records, project documents, and customer information.

If those files became unavailable, what would you restore—and how?

A useful backup plan should answer:

• What data and systems are included?
• How often are backups taken?
• How far back can you recover?
• Are backup copies protected separately from your working systems?
• When was recovery last tested?

Hardware failures, accidental deletions, and damaged files can interrupt work. Reliable backups give you recovery options, while testing helps confirm that those options work.

The goal is to restore the information and systems your team actually needs—not simply collect successful backup notifications.

Computer Ties helps businesses plan for backup and recovery. Call 517-788-6393 to discuss your current setup.

AI can save time. It can also expose sensitive information or produce an answer that sounds convincing—and is wrong.

Before your employees use AI for work, give them clear rules.

A practical AI safe-use policy should explain:

• Which tools and business accounts are approved.
• What information employees may enter.
• Which tasks require human review.
• Who approves connections to company files and email.
• How to report an accidental upload or other concern.

Keep passwords, customer records, employee information, and confidential documents out of unapproved AI tools. Even approved tools need appropriate settings and clear limits on what data they can access.

Check AI-generated facts, calculations, and instructions before relying on them. A polished answer is not proof of accuracy.

Does your team know what responsible AI use looks like at your business? Put it in writing, explain it, and review it as the tools change.

Before you send that Microsoft 365 file link, give its permissions a quick look.

Who needs the file?
For a link intended for named recipients, choose “Specific people” when that option is available.

Do they need to make changes?
Choose view access when editing isn’t necessary.

Does older access still belong there?
Review existing permissions when a project ends or responsibilities change. Creating a new sharing link doesn’t automatically remove access someone already has.

A few deliberate choices can make everyday file sharing easier to manage.

Save this checklist for the next document you share.

Security cameras and door access control serve different purposes.

Cameras help you see and review activity. Access control helps manage who can enter through a controlled door and when.

Before choosing equipment, consider:

• Which areas need useful camera coverage?
• Who needs access to each door?
• How long should recordings be retained?
• Who will update permissions when staffing changes?

Computer Ties helps businesses plan camera and access control systems around their buildings and daily operations.

Planning a new system or reviewing an existing one? Call 517-788-6393.

A new employee’s first morning should have room for introductions and training.

Let your IT provider know about an upcoming hire early enough to prepare:

• Their computer, monitors, and accessories
• Email and required applications
• Approved access to files and systems
• Multifactor authentication setup

Share the start date, work location, job responsibilities, and manager-approved access requirements. Those details help make the setup fit the role.

Already a Computer Ties customer? Please also notify us when employees leave or computers are added or removed so access, device management, and billing can be updated.
