Our Meet The Team series continues as we introduce the people behind Project: Cold Case and the heart they bring to this work.

This week, we are featuring Crystal Anlage, Victim Advocate and Office Manager.
Crystal brings compassion, organization, and survivor-centered support to her role at Project: Cold Case. She works closely with families affected by homicide, helping ensure they feel heard, supported, and connected to resources along the way.

Crystal is also a Nationally Credentialed Victim Advocate and the Founder and Executive Director of the Jacksonville Survivors Foundation. She presented at the 2024 Cold Case Symposium, as well as the 2025 NCVC National Training Institute, and she will be presenting at NOVA 52 in Las Vegas and the 2026 NCVC National Training Institute in Chicago.

What makes Crystal’s work especially meaningful is the lived understanding and deep compassion she brings into every space she enters. Her advocacy is rooted not only in knowledge and experience, but in heart. We are truly grateful for all she does behind the scenes and in direct support of survivors and families.

In her free time, Crystal is an avid concert goer, loves spending time with her family and 4 dogs, nail art enthusiast and loves to line dance.

In the early hours of June 14, 2019, around 1:30 a.m., Michael Sinotte Jr., 22, quietly left his family’s home in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, without saying where he was going. About 30 minute later, at 2:04 a.m., a state trooper encountered Michael’s black 2000 Honda Civic parked along Route 138 near the West Kingston Post Office. When approached, Michael explained he was using his phone for directions. He appeared calm, declined assistance, and drove off. Three days later, his car was discovered locked and abandoned near the Great Swamp Management Area in South Kingstown. Inside were Grubhub receipts, a partially eaten hamburger, but no phone or keys. His phone had been turned off and has not been recovered. For more than six years, Michael’s family has continued to search for answers and advocate for his case, hoping for the justice he deserves.

This week, we are highlighting Sarah Mitchell, Victim Advocate.

Sarah plays an important role in supporting families as they navigate the heartbreak, uncertainty, and long road that can come with an unsolved homicide case. In work like this, compassion matters. Presence matters. Being willing to listen, care, and walk beside someone in their pain matters. Sarah brings that kind of steady, heartfelt support to the families we serve.

We are so thankful for the kindness, empathy, and dedication Sarah brings to this work and to the survivors who trust us during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

We are always taking new case submissions for unsolved homicides and missing persons cases with foul play suspected.

As a reminder, here is the criteria to submit a loved one to our platform.
1. It must be at least one year from the date of the incident.
2. The information must be submitted by a family member.
3. The death must have been ruled a homicide.
4. In cases of missing persons, foul play must be suspected by the family.

Shyheim Smith, 21, was found suffering from a gunshot wound at a home in the 5500 block of Cedartown Road in Molino, Florida. There were three people in the room at the time, but Shyheim was the only one hit with gunfire. Shyheim was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Escambia County Sheriff's Office believes this was a targeted shooting, and that the suspect or suspects walked around to the side of the home and shot through the window.

Anyone with information concerning Shyheim Smith's murder is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff's Office at 850-436-9620. To remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a reward, call Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-7867.
