The Forest Supervisor has issued an order prohibiting possession of chainsaws and refuse (i.e. wooden material containing nails or other hardware) at Auke Recreation Area, the Lena Beach Recreation Area, and Skaters Cabin in Juneau. This Order is effective from June 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027.
The order was developed in response to numerous complaints by the public and increased maintenance requirements reported by staff. It is intended to safeguard forest resources, preserve existing recreational opportunities, protect the public, and minimize user conflict.
Violation of the order is a Class B misdemeanor.

A decade trying to get people to care. I look around and it looks like a waste of time. Couches dumped on the side of the road, free piles left to rot, mattresses and furniture piled up on street corners. Cars dumped as far as Echo cove. I’ve come to the conclusion something’s need to be broken to get fixed and maybe my efforts are in the way of an actual solution. . When is City and Borough of Juneau going to care?

When your neighbors will set off fireworks and make a ruckus at night to chase off the bear but NO ONE bothers to clean up the mess come daylight. 🙄🙄 Secure your dam trash and go pick it up when it goes missing, please.
