The central Southeast season opened Sept. 15 and runs for a month. It’s a restricted antler hunt, and only bulls with specific antler configurations can be taken.

Atka and Adak are under a high wind warning from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, with gusts up to 80 mph expected.

Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are possible in St. Paul and St. George, and 50 to 60 mph in False Pass, according to the weather service.

Storm brings wind warning and advisory to the Aleutians A strong storm is expected to bring high winds to Unalaska and the Aleutian and Pribilof islands beginning Wednesday and lasting into late Friday night. The storm has moved slightly farther south and grown stronger compared with earlier forecasts, according to the National Weather Service.

The Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska’s broadband company, Tidal Network, wants to build a tower on borough land near Petersburg’s fire hall. The company has already constructed a tower at Mill Road and is in the process of building another at Papke’s Landing.

But the company has faced loud, sustained opposition from community members for the past year. Communications towers have become a controversial topic and are regularly brought up in public meetings.
