Three years ago, I posted my first YouTube video.
The only reason I started the channel in the first place was that our dear clients, John and Bev of The Retirement Travelers, kept telling me I should. They had built an incredible YouTube community themselves and convinced me to give it a shot. I figured, why not?
I love to teach. I knew I’d be comfortable enough on camera. So I started writing scripts, recording videos, and putting them out into the world.
I wasn’t thinking about bringing in tons of clients. Frankly, I didn’t even think that was possible. I just wanted to take what I knew and make retirement planning easier for people to understand.
Fast-forward three years…
Nearly 70,000 subscribers.
People who tune in every Saturday.
Thousands of comments from viewers telling me that something I explained helped them make a better decision, ask a better question, or finally understand something that had confused them for years.
And incredible clients who first got to know me by watching those videos.
Sometimes I look at the numbers and genuinely cannot believe my eyes.
What started as a little experiment has become one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I get to teach, help people all over the country, and connect with people I never would have met otherwise.
So to everyone who watches, subscribes, comments, shares my videos, or has trusted our team because you first found me on YouTube: THANK YOU. ❤️
This has truly been a dream come true.
And naturally, I had to celebrate three years in the most appropriate way possible…By addressing the increasingly common accusation that I am, in fact, AI. 😂
So for those of you who remain suspicious, I made you a video.

Sometimes the best team building happens outside the office. ⛳️
One thing I’ve always believed is that doing great work and having a life outside of work should not be mutually exclusive.
Work-life balance matters, and sometimes that means closing the laptops a little early and heading to the golf course.
Kristen and Reeya got in some practice this week before joining Erik for a scramble benefiting The Shane Carpenter Foundation this weekend.
I love seeing our team spend time together outside of the office, have some fun, and support a great cause while they’re at it.
Of course, based on what I’ve heard, a little extra practice before the tournament probably wasn’t a bad idea either. 😉⛳️

When someone hits 10 years at URS, we celebrate accordingly. 🎉🍩
Our team wasn’t about to let Erik’s 10-year anniversary pass quietly, so they surprised him with a decorated office door and, most importantly, Luke’s Donuts.
I love seeing our team find little ways to celebrate each other and make milestones like this feel special.
And after 10 years, I think Erik has officially earned the donuts. 😂

Ten years ago, Julia and I made the decision to work together at URS Advisory.
We had already been married for two years, and I knew exactly what I was signing up for.
Julia has always been a go-getter. She’s ambitious, relentless, and not particularly interested in being told something can’t be done. I saw that early on, and I knew those qualities would make her a great business partner.
Of course, being married for 12 years and working together for 10 of them hasn’t always been easy. Building a business together while raising a family will test you. We’ve had to learn how to challenge each other, trust each other, stay in our own lanes when necessary, and keep moving in the same direction.
Looking back at this picture, we had no idea what URS would become.
Ten years later, we’ve built a firm we’re proud of, surrounded ourselves with a great team, and created something that is much bigger than either of us could have built alone.
I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but I’m even more proud that we’ve done it together.
Happy 10 years as business partners, Julia.

10 years ago, I had this vision in my head.
Someday, we’d be successful enough to have a real office. A full team. People working, talking, collaborating, phones ringing, clients being taken care of. Just a place that felt alive.
Today, I was sitting at my desk working when I looked up and realized I was in it.
The office was buzzing. My team was doing their thing. And for a second, I just stopped and took it all in.
I had to pull out my phone and capture it because this is the stuff you can miss when you’re busy building.
10 years ago, this was the dream.
Today, it was just a Thursday. 💛
