Please join Open Roads for the Spencer Cowles Memorial Ride on August 22nd at 10:00am. This ride is open to the public and will cover a stretch of the KRVT.

We will start and end at the North parking lot of Verburg Park. As we celebrate Spencer, we will make a few stops along the way. This is a no-drop ride, but please be prepared to ride for approximately 15 miles on intermittently hilly terrain. Helmets are required.

We want to introduce you to our two newest builds at Open Roads! These Kona twins have our mechanics absolutely in love.

The brown gravel bike, also known as Hannah, is perfect for all your Kal Haven needs. This build boasts an awesome 2 by 10 drive train. The bike is perfect for a rider between the heights of 5’5” and 5’9”

Our navy and yellow mountain bike, also known as Lava Dome, is an awesome build for those interested in taking on some rougher terrain. This bike has a 3 by 7 drive train and will also fit a rider between the heights of 5’5” and 5’9”

Each bike is for sale for $350, so come down to Open Roads on a Thursday/Friday from 2-6 or on a Saturday from 12-4 to give it a test ride.

Per usual, we had an awesome time with our friends from Stryker! The crew helped us out with a much needed garage clean out and few random carpentry projects. Our volunteers had no issue with getting their hands dirty and spending some time in the sun :)

If your organization wants to spend the day volunteering with Open Roads, reach out to [email protected]

We are so excited to introduce another amazing member of the Open Roads board, Jay Tatara! A few words from Jay:

I have always ridden a bicycle. As a child, it was to roam the neighborhood with friends and jump over each other’s bodies on BMX bikes. Critical Mass rides, tours, employment, commuting: it seems that whatever phase of life, the bicycle has been a companion. I still ride daily and like to include multi day tours, camping off my bicycle each year.

I have made a career of helping people play. Employed at Climb Kalamazoo as a manager and instructor, and with Experiential Systems as a trainer and inspector. I am ‌often working at, or helping others play at height.

I spend as much time as I can outside for recreation, often with my family. I like books, travel, gardening, and low pressure bird watching. I’d like to be fishing and drawing more.
