August is National Black Business Month, and it's a good time to say plainly what we're about: we're a minority-led development firm, building in the neighborhoods that built us.
We started Bogan Developments on a simple belief — the communities most overlooked by traditional real estate deserve the same quality, design, and care as anywhere else. Excellence shouldn't be a privilege. It should be a promise.
Founder Jamauri Bogan put it this way: "One of the things we really want to highlight this month is the availability of minority developers — and honestly, the capital that flows into that ecosystem. There's still a lot of work to be done there. But as someone who stands in this space, I'm excited about the progress that's being made."
This month, we're proud to stand alongside Black-led businesses across every industry — building not just companies, but futures.

We're proud to share that Bogan Developments has joined the Southwest Michigan First Chamber.
Their mission and ours line up: a region where business growth and community wellbeing move together, not in competition. That's the standard we hold ourselves to across our projects, and it's what drew us to this network of businesses working toward the same future in Southwest Michigan.
Proud to be part of it.

Southwest Michigan's Second Wave published a great piece on Zone 32 Phase II and Kalamazoo County's $2 million Housing Millage commitment to the project.
It's that kind of attention tells you something: this development is on people's radar, and the momentum behind it is real.
Big thanks to writer Al Jones and the Second Wave team for the coverage, and to Kalamazoo County Housing Director Mary Balkema, Deputy Director Willa DiTaranto, and the County Commissioners for the continued partnership.

We closed on the land for Zone 32 Phase 2!
A huge thank you to our partners at the The City of Kalamazoo, Michigan Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation for being part of this moment with us.
This project is moving forward because of partnerships like these — people who believe in what this community can become and show up to help build it.
Excited for what's next.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of opportunity for all.
Freedom has come at a tremendous cost — paid through the sacrifices, courage, and perseverance of those who fought for justice and equality.
As we reflect on their legacy, we're reminded that freedom is most meaningful when it's accompanied by access to housing, education, economic opportunity, and strong communities.
Today we celebrate. We honor. And we recommit to building communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Happy Juneteenth.

Grateful for a great conversation last week with the Real Estate Group at Warner Norcross + Judd in Kalamazoo.
We talked about the journey, the mission behind Bogan Developments, and one of the keys to how a small team executes at a high level — having a legal partner with expertise across a wide range of disciplines. Our relationship with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP gives us the ability to play both offense and defense as we continue to grow and execute projects. That's not something we take for granted.
Big thanks to James Liggins for moderating the conversation, and a special shoutout to Rachel Foster. Appreciate the room and the real dialogue.
More conversations like this. More building.

Zone 32 Phase II just got a major green light.
The Kalamazoo County Government of Commissioners has approved $2 million in 2027 Housing Millage funds for Zone 32 Phase II — a 38-unit affordable housing development in Kalamazoo's Northside Neighborhood.
With studios, one-bedroom units, and two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartments planned for a reclaimed brownfield site at Pitcher and Myrtle Streets, we're on track to break ground this summer.
A huge thank you to Housing Director Mary Balkema, Deputy Director Willa DiTaranto, and the Kalamazoo County Commissioners for their continued support of this community and this vision. None of this happens without people who are willing to invest in neighborhoods and the families who call them home.
This is what it looks like when a community invests in itself. More updates to come.

“Just because you can build doesn’t mean you should.”
That idea shapes how we approach development—especially here in West Michigan.
It’s about making sure what gets built actually fits the community and supports long-term growth.
We share more about why this region matters to us in our blog: https://bogandevelopments.com/blog/why-west-michigan

Today is a day to remember.
Not just to post—but to actually pause and honor those who gave their lives in service to this country.
We're grateful for the freedom to build, to invest in our communities, and to do work that matters.
That freedom has a cost. Today we acknowledge who paid it.
Thank you.
