A little reminder as we head into the first Friday of October. 🍂
You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to make the weekend productive. And you certainly don't have to earn a little rest.
Put on something comfortable. Make something warm. Take a deep breath. Enjoy the little things.
Whatever this week looked like for you, you made it here.
Happy Friday, Kalispell. 🧡

🏔️ Montana is beautiful.
But can you actually afford to live here?
We took a look at what housing costs in Kalispell, what it takes to qualify for a rental, and what “affordable” actually looks like when you do the math.
The numbers might surprise you.
👉 Swipe through. Then tell us what you think.
A number can tell you something about homelessness in a community, but it can’t tell you everything.
The 2025 Point-in-Time Count identified 154 people experiencing homelessness in Kalispell.
But anyone who has worked in homelessness knows that these counts are difficult to capture perfectly.
It’s not always possible to find everyone. Some people are staying in places that are difficult to reach. Some are moving around. Some may not feel comfortable talking with outreach workers or answering questions. And some people simply don’t want to participate in a survey.
Outreach teams work hard during these counts to reach people who aren't staying in shelters, but there are limits to what can realistically be found and documented during a short counting period.
In our experience, the people easiest to capture are often the people already connected to a shelter or other services at the time of the count. That doesn’t mean the people outside of those systems aren’t there. It means they can be much harder to find.
So when you see a Point-in-Time number like 154, it’s important to understand what it represents: people who were located and counted during that specific effort, not necessarily every person experiencing homelessness in our community.
The number matters. But so does understanding the limitation behind the number.
Homelessness is happening here in our community, whether someone is visible to us or not.

A little more progress at Samaritan House. đźŹ
Today, the team from Great Northern Granite came in and installed our new countertops, and watching that biggest slab make its way into place was pretty impressive.
This is one of those upgrades that might seem small from the outside, but these are the kinds of changes that make our spaces feel cleaner, newer, and more like home.
We’re working through these improvements one project at a time, and it’s pretty cool to see the difference starting to add up.
A huge thank you to Great Northern Granite LLC for the work, the craftsmanship, and for helping us keep this project moving forward.
More progress to come. ❤️

WINTER IN MONTANA ISN’T JUST UNCOMFORTABLE. ❄️
And as we all know it is on the way.
At a wind chill of -20°F, exposed skin can develop frostbite in about 30 minutes.
For someone without a safe, warm place to go, that kind of cold can become a serious health and safety concern very quickly.
That’s why resources like Samaritan House and the Flathead Warming Center matter.
Different programs can serve different needs, but the goal is the same:
Keep people safe.
Keep people warm.
Help people get through the night.
Help connect people with the resources they need.
As we head into another Montana winter, we want to remind our community that there are people and organizations working together to make sure no one has to face extreme cold completely alone.
If you’re experiencing homelessness or know someone who is, please reach out and learn what local resources are available.
And thank you to everyone in our community who helps make those resources possible. ❤️

What happens after someone walks through the doors of Samaritan House?
For someone experiencing homelessness, knowing what to expect can make that first step a little less intimidating.
From the initial intake, to meeting with a case manager, setting goals, working toward transitional housing, and eventually qualifying for permanent housing, there is a process designed to help people move forward.
Every person’s situation is different. Some people may move through these steps quickly, while others need more time or take a different path.
We created this guide to give people a better idea of what that journey can look like before they ever walk through our doors.
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness in the Flathead Valley, Samaritan House is here to help connect people with resources, support, and a path toward housing stability.
🏠One step at a time. One person at a time.
