Happy Birthday, Kankakee! On this day in 1853, Kankakee was voted as the county seat for the newly formed Kankakee County.

CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH: June 19th marks the oldest known holiday commemorating the end of slavery in America. The monument in this photo depicts the day in Galveston, Texas when Major General Gordon Granger arrived with news of the abolition of slavery more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

County offices will be closed tomorrow, June 19th. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, June 22nd!
