DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUSPECT CAPTURED
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Last week Kent Patrol Officers responded to an apartment in Kent regarding a stolen vehicle. The 911 caller stated that her boyfriend had just stolen her car. Prior to their arrival, officers determined that the suspect had an order prohibiting contact with the 911 caller. The order had been recently entered and served on the suspect. The suspect had 2 guns registered to him.

The caller/victim stated that the day prior she and the suspect had argued. At some point he took her phone and car keys and grabbed her around the neck to the point she could not breathe. He left the next day, taking her vehicle. There were injuries to corroborate her statement. Officers searched for the suspect at known locations but were unable to locate him or the victim’s vehicle that night. The victim was given options to leave and was connected to Project Be Free for services.

On Tuesday, a Kent Field Training Officer and his partner were on routine patrol and located the victim’s stolen vehicle back in the area of where the assaults occurred. They contacted the victim and she confirmed he was in her apartment. He was inside a bedroom with one of her children. Officers removed the victim and her other child from the apartment. As officers requested a warrant from a judge to enter and search for the suspect, other officers began speaking to the suspect via PA announcements. The suspect was not communicative, and they quickly became concerned that the child still in the unit was being held hostage, so they called in a hostage negotiator.

After about two hours of patient negotiation with the suspect, the child exited the apartment. The child was not harmed. The suspect eventually gave up and after exiting on his own, was placed under arrest without further incident. His charges include Assault 2nd, Residential Burglary DV, Felony Order Violation and Taking a Motor Vehicle without Permission 2nd.

Great job by every officer involved with this arrest. The officers were diligent in keeping the family safe, searching for the suspect and vehicle, and utilizing all their resources to make the arrest with limited trauma to the children. Detectives followed up to ensure all appropriate charges were filed.

Victims of family violence need to know that when they call for help during what is often the worst day of their lives, that someone will come and make them safe. We will come, make appropriate arrests, and will connect you to resources to help you beyond the moments of fear.

BOY SCOUTS AND BICYCLE TIRES

Officer Hamilton had his hands full yesterday evening at Scout night, helping kids learn how to change bicycle tires. His co-worker told us he must have handled 100 tires, and his audience was paying rapt attention the entire time.

KENT POLICE DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING ON KENT’S WEST HILL

Kent, WA – September 28, 2026

Today at approximately 10:43 a.m., Kent Police Officers and Des Moines Police Officers were dispatched to S. 272nd Street near the I-5 overpass following multiple reports of a shooting. 911 callers reported that two people had been shot and that the suspect vehicle had fled the area.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims inside a vehicle and extracted them for medical aid. Puget Sound Fire and King County Medic One personnel were on scene and provided emergency medical treatment. Despite these efforts, both victims died from their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses reported that they were stopped in traffic when they heard multiple gunshots on S. 272nd Street near the I-5 overpass. Some witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan pull alongside the victims’ vehicle and someone from the sedan fire multiple rounds into the victims' vehicle before fleeing. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on I-5.

Initial information indicates that this was not a random act of violence and the shooting appears to have been targeted.

Kent Police Detectives responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation. Detectives are working to confirm the description of the suspect(s), and the vehicle they used by processing evidence, including available video from the area.

The victims are two young males who appear to be in their late teens or early 20s. Detectives are working to confirm their identities.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death and will release the victims’ identities after next of kin notifications have been completed.

POLICE INVESTIGATION ROAD CLOSURE S 272nd

S 272nd at the I5 overpass is closed both directions until further notice.

Kent Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting at that location. Please avoid the area.

KENT POLICE TRAFFIC UNIT INVESTIGATING FATAL COLLISION.

Kent, WA-September 25, 2026

This morning at 8:48 a.m. Kent Police Officers, Puget Sound Fire and Medics were dispatched to northbound Military Rd. S just south of Kent Des Moines Rd regarding a vehicle crashed into a fence. Upon arrival, Puget Sound Fire extricated the driver from the vehicle. They discovered that a piece of the fence had entered the vehicle and struck the driver, a 37-year-old Kent man, tragically causing a life-ending injury.

An adult passenger in the vehicle was not injured. He stated that as they travelled downhill towards the Kent Des Moines Rd., intersection, the driver made a comment about the brakes not working, then veered away to avoid the stopped vehicles at the bottom of the hill, causing them to crash into the fence.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. At this time the initial evidence gathered does not indicate that intoxication was a factor.

KENT POLICE INVESTIGATING TRAIN FATALITY

Kent, WA-September 24, 2026

On Thursday September 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Kent Officers, Puget Sound Fire, and King County Medics were dispatched to the BSNF railroad tracks at S 266th regarding a pedestrian being struck by a train.

Upon arrival, first responders located an male, a 46-year-old Auburn resident, who was obviously deceased. Initial witness information is that the man was walking north on the northbound tracks. Despite the train conductor taking emergency action to stop the train and sound the train horn, the collision could not be avoided.
