We hiked Perseverance and could not have asked for a more perfect Ketchikan Summer day! Great hike, great kids, great weather π
The U.S. Surgeon General recently released a new advisory on screen use and kids.
The short version: excessive screen time is linked to real risks for kids and teens, including poorer sleep, increased anxiety and depression, lower grades, and decreased physical activity.
The report shares warning signs that families can watch out for, and offers tools and strategies to help kids find balance and practice healthy screen use habits.

Mouthfuls of early blueberries, a rope swing, and driftwood forts - not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
Last week some of our KAP kids headed north and hiked out to Coast Guard Beach. The weather was perfect and made for a magical day - the perfect Ketchikan mix of forest and beach.
No screens, no schedules. Just kids being kids outside. That's what KAP is all about.
Where are your favorite places to get outside this summer? Tell us in the comments!

KAP kids are landing all kinds of marine life this summer - from king salmon to sea cucumbers!
Emmett snagged a 36 inch king while jigging for bottom species. It fought him for ten minutes before he was able to get it close to the boat. Then it tried to tangle up his line in the prop before jetting off again. Emmett stuck with it though, and after a few more minutes of reeling and wrestling, Capt. Lindsey was able to reach it with the net and they got it in the boat. Let's hear it for Emmett!!
HUGE thanks to our partners at Baranof Fishing who make these fishing excursions possible for our kids. If you're looking for an excellent charter experience - look no further! Our participants always have a blast.
And special thanks to Alaska Children's Trust and the City of Ketchikan who provided us with grant funding to help make sure these kids could get out on the water and fish this summer!
